Sir Edward Lake, Chancellor of the Diocese of Lincoln, and Advocate-General in Ireland, was, for his loyalty and services to Charles I., granted by that monarch the coat of augmentation now borne by the family, and the exceptional privilege of nominating a person to be created a baronet. He did not, however, avail himself of this privilege, and, in consequence, a baronetcy was in 1711 conferred on his great-nephew and heir, Bibye Lake, Esq. Sub-Governor of the African Co.
