upon the ground or elsewhere, after descending thru the
air above; dismount, get down, or land from a balloon or
airship; land under control, en a particular spet or ebject,
by floating, flying, or falling lightly, as a bird from the
wing; descend, settle (and dismount). alighting-area 9'lai-tirj,e:-zi-9 n. an area or tract of
ground to be used by aviators for landing their machines
and alighting. alighting-gear 9'lai-tirj,gi:z n. the gear or apparatus (in an
aircraft) which is used in alighting or coming to earth;
the landing-gear.

alto-nimbus ,3elto'mmb9s n. [ploral alto*nimb\\ high nim- bus, a dull-colord cloud f ermd at the tep of a mass of air flowing in under an advancing cumulus or cumulo-nimbus, and afterward giving rise to rain.
