Bright day. We stayed home all day except to go out for dinner. In evening we went down to the water front. Found tide high, with heavy surf. The pier and "roller coaster" are so much damaged that they have been closed by the city authorities.

Bright and hot all day. A noisy fourth of July here, and big crowd. Brother Henry came down and Nellie and I went to the tennis tournament with him in afternoon. Found Frank there and later Alice and her friend joined us at our rooms and we all went to dinner together at Shoup's, afterwards watching the fireworks.
