Sunu bēo ūpp āhafen? hwæt ys þēs mannes Sunu?[1]

35. Þā cwæð sē Hǣlend, Nū gȳt ys lȳtel lēoht on ēow. Gāþ þā hwile þe gē lēoht habbað, þæt þȳstro ēow ne befōn; sē þe gǣð on þȳstro, hē nāt hwyder hē gǣð.[2]

36. Þā hwīle þe gē lēoht habbon, gelȳfað on lēoht, þæt gē sȳn lēohtes bearn. Ðās þing sē Hǣlend him sǣde, and ēode and bedīglode hine fram him.[3]

37. Đā hē swā mycele tācn dyde beforan him, hī ne gelȳfdon on hyne:[4]

38. þæt ðæs wītegan word Isaias wǣre gefylled þā hē cwæð, Drihten, hwā gelȳfde þæs þe wē gehȳrdon? and hwām wæs Drihtnes strencð geswutelod?[5]

39. For þī hī ne mihton gelȳfan, for þām Isaias cwæþ eft,[6]

40. Hē āblende hyra ēagan, and āhyrde hyra heortan; þæt hī ne gesēon mid hyra ēagon, and mid hyra heortan ne ongyton, and sȳn gecyrrede, and ic hig gehǣle.[7]

41. Isaias sǣde ðās þing þā hē geseah hys wuldor, and spræc be him.[8]
