In 1867 he was a member of the Georgia state constitutional convention; and in 1868-72 was state treasurer of Georgia. In 1876-78 he was mayor of Atlanta; and took an active part in locating the state capitol' in that city. He died Feb. 3, 1892, in Atlanta, Ga. Angell, William Gorham, inventor, was born Nov. 21, 1811, in Providence, R.I. In 1838 he became manager of the Eagle screw company, which subsequently was merged

Ansberry, Timothy Thomas, lawyer, congressman, was born Dec. 24, 1871, in Defiance, Ohio. In 1893 he graduated with the degree of LL.B. from the university of Notre Dame; and the same year was admitted to the bar. For two years he was a justice of the peace at Defiance, Ohio; and for three terms was prosecuting attorney for Defiance county. In 1907-09 he was prosecuting attorney for Defiance county. In 1907-11 he was a representative from Ohio to the sixtieth and sixty-first congresses. Ansel, Martin Frederick, lawyer, legislator, governor, was born Dec. 12, 1850, in Charleston, S.C. Anglum, Daniel Francis,

soldier, was born in Massachusetts. In 1874-82 he was private to first sergeant in the twelfth regiment

United States infantry; became second lieutenant in 1882; and in 1891 became first lieutenant in the sixteenth regiment United States infantry. In 1891 he was transferred to the twelfth infantry; became captain in 1898; and was retired in 1901.

Angus, Samuel, naval officer, was born in 1784 in Philadelphia, Pa. He entered the service in 1799 as midshipman. He became lieutenant in 1807; master-commandant in 1813; and captain in 1816. He commanded the ship that carried Adams and Clay to Ghent to arrange the peace with Great Britain. He died May 29, 1840, in Geneva, N.Y.

He subsequently engaged in the banking business in Walla Walla, Wash.; and has been president of seven banks in Oregon and Washington. He was a member of the United States senate for the term of 1903-09.
