In 1883 she was elected state president of the Texas woman's christian temperance unShe is the author of Maplehurst ; Digest of Parliamentary Laws; and a collection of Responsive Bible Readings. Beauchamp, Lou J., journalist, lecturer, author, was born Jan. 14, 1853, in Cincinnati Ohio. Since 1877 he has been principally engaged as a temperance lecturer; and has been called the western Gough. He is the author of This, That and The Other; Sunshine; and What the Duchess and I Saw in ion.

Beauchamp, William, clergyman, was born April 26, 1772, in ICent county, Del. In 1817 he began to build up the town of Mount Carmel, 111.; and in 1823 was appointed presiding elder of the Indiana district. He was the author of Essays on the Truth of the Christian Religion. He died Oct. 7, 1824, in Paoli, Ind.

Beaudry, Louis Napoleon, clergyman, authwas born Aug. 11, 1833, in Highgate, Vt. He studied in Troy university; but left without graduation and became chaplain of the New York regiment of cavalry in 1863 ; and in 1865 was honorably discharged. Beaumont, Henry Francis, soldier, journalauthor, was born Sept. 8, 1878, in Nashville, Tenn. He attended the Bell academy, the university of Nashville and Jennings business college. He has been connected with the Sunday Times, Society Chat and Southern Life. During the Spanish-American war he ist,

served in the first regiment Tennessee infantry in its campaigns in the Philippine Islands. In 1898 he founded the Manila American, the first newspaper published in English in the Philippine Islands. He has been editor of the Knoxville Journal-Tribune and other publications; is now bureau manager of the Atlanta Constitution; and editor of the Southern Magazine. He is the author of Forgotten Pages in Tennessee History; and The

Lost Regiment.

Beaumont, John 6., naval oificer, was born Aug. 27, 1831, in Pennsylvania. He was engaged as commander of a monitor in attacks on the fortifications in Charleston harbor during the civil war; and took a prominent part in the capture of Fort Wagner. He died Aug. 2, 1883.
