By printing the most popular class of interesting stories, he gave the paper a wide circulation, which was further extended by the contributions of Fanny Fern, Edward Everett, Henry Ward Beecher and other eminent authors and clergymen. He made large gifts of money to Princeton college and to various charities. He died July 6, 1899, in New York City.

He was the author of Rules of Law for Carriage and Delivery of Persons and Property by Railway; Summary of the Law of Marine, Fire and Life Insurance; and Our Remedy in the Laws. Bonney, Edward, soldier, author, was bom Aug. 26, 1807, in Essex county, N.Y. After the murder of Colonel George Davenport at Rock Island in 1845, he volunteered to detect, bring to justice and disperse a widely organized gahg of murderers and robbers, thieves and counterfeiters that then infested the Mississippi valley, and was known as the bandit-- of the prairies. The story of his success is described in The Banditti of the Prairies, or the Murderer's Doom, a Tale of the Mississippi and the Far West, of which it is said that more copies have been sold than of any other publication in the western country. He settled in Hannibal in 1860 and at the beginning of the civil war enlisted in the national army; and was assigned to the secret service. He died Feb. 4, 1864, in Chicago, 111. Bonnifield, M. S., lawyer, jurist, was born Sept. 14, 1833, in Randolph county, W.Va. In 1895 he became an associate justice of the state supreme court of Nevada; and in 1899;

Bonwill, William Gibson Arlington, surgeon, dentist, inventor, poet, was born Oct. 4, 1833, in Camden, Del. He gave to the world two inventions of the very highest utility, the surgical engine and the artificial tooth crown. He was the author of Geometry and Mechanics Deny Evolution; also of numer-
ous poems; and many papers on dental and aural surgery. He died in 1899 in Philadelphia, Pa. Bonynge, Rogert W., lawyer, congressman, was born Sept. 8, 1868, in New York City. Since 1888 he has practiced law in Denver, Col. In 1893-94 he was a member of the Colorado state legislature. In 1903-09 he was a representative from Colorado to the fiftyeighth, fifty-ninth and sixtieth congresses as a republican. Bonzano, M. F., statesman, was born in Louisiana. In 1862 he was elected a representative from Louisiana to the thirty-eighth congress as a republican, but his seat was contested and he never served. He died in Louisiana. Boody, Henry Hill, business man, state senator, was born in November, 1816, in Jackson. He received a thorough education; and in 1842 he graduated from the Bowdoin college; and in 1845-54 held the chair of rhetoric and oratory in that institution of learning. He was then elected to the state senate of Maine; and subsequently represented his town in the
Maine house sentatives.
