Leach, Mrs. Antoinette Dakin, educator, lawyer, was born April 3. 18. in Indianapolis. Ind. During 1875-79 she was a teacher in the public schools of her native state: and during 1887-83 was a court reporter and teacher of stenography. By decision o the Supreme Court in Indiana she was granted permission to practice law in 1893; and she has since attained success in her chosen profession in Sullivan, Ind. In 1898 she was a delegate to the democratic state conventions and was the first woman delegate who ever attended a democratic state convention in Indiana; as she also was the first woman ever admitted to the bar in her state, She is the wife of George W. Benel, a successful farmer and stock breeder. Her daughter. Mrs. Hortense Shepler, is an artist of ability.
Leach, De Witt Clinton, journalist, state librarian, congressman was born Nov. 22, 1822, in Clarence, N.Y. He was clue a member of the Michigan state legislature in 1849; and was state librarian in 1855- In 1857-61 he was a representative from Michigan to the thirty-fifth and thirty-sixth congress as republican. In 1867 he purchased the Herald, of Traverse City, Mich, which he published and edited for nine years.
Leach, Edward Giles, lawyer, insurance president, statesman, was born Jan. 28. 1819, in Meredith, X.II. In 1871 be graduated from Dartmouth college. Since 1874 he has been engaged in the practice of law at Concard and Franklin. N.H. Since 1854 He has been president of the Maunfacturers and merchants mutual insurance company: and is an officer in numerous corporations. In 1893-95 he was a member of the New Hampshire house of representatives; and in 1900 was a member of the state senate. In 1985-06 he was a member of the governor's council.
'Leach, Frank Aleamon, journalist, government official, was born Aug, 19. 1816. in Auburn, N.Y. At the age of twenty years he became a newspaper publisher; and in 1807-86 was owner of the Vallejo Evening Chronicle; and in 1896-08 was owner of The Oakland Inquirer; in 1807-1007 he was superintendent of the United States mint ad San Francisco, Cal.; and since 1907 has been director of the United States mint at Washington, D.C.

Leach, James Madison, soldier, lawyer,state senator. congressman, was born in 1824 in Lambsdowne, NC. He served ten years in the legislature of North Carolina; and in 1850 was a presidential elector. In 1859-41 and 1871-75 he was a representative from North Carolina to the thirty-sixth, forty-real and forty-third congresses, He served in the confederate army; and was in the confederate congress. He was elected to the state senate after the civil war, and was elected to the forty-secund and forty-third egresses as a conservative.
Leach, John, naval officer, was born about 1743 in Salem. Mass. He went to sea early in life, soon rose to the command of a vessel. During the revolutionary war he was a commander of privateers; and with the Franklin, manned by 30 men, after a short but desperate engagement, he captured an English brig with 16 men. He died Oct. 9, 1804, at sea.
Leach, Josiah Granville, soldier, lawyer, legislator, was born July 27, 1842, in Cape May, N.J. He enlisted in the civil war; and served as sergeant, sergeant-major, and lieutenaut in the twenty-fifth regiment New Jersey volunteers. In 1868 he graduated from the law department of the university of Pennsylvania. He has served in the state legislature of Pennsylvania; and in 1881-82 was one of the leaders of the independent republican movement in Pennsylvania. He is the author of Memoranda Relating to the Ancestry of Ex-Vice-President Levi P. Morton: History of the Girard National Bank of Philadelphia; and other works.

He has been secretary and president of the St. Paul society of homoeopathic medicine and surgery; and has been secretary and president of the Minnesota homoeopathic institute, and was secretary of the board of health of Paris, Texas, he is the author of Arsenization Method of Preventing Cholera and Yellow Fever; The Proper Disposal of Garbage in Large Cities; and other works.
