Isabelle Doughss* w as a daughter of l.oril Archibald liou glass (son o f Jan ies Douglass)* bom in at Bothwell Castle, Scotland* and died in 178]* at Glasgow. Pollock; Drusilla, born Aug. 16. 1842* married lo b ia s Henry. H E R B E R T S. G R O ‘E, proprietor of the H. S . G rove department store at Catawissa, Pa., w as born in K elly township* Union Co.. Pa., Ju n e 28* 1877, son o f Abraham G rove and grandson o f David Grove. H ts paternal great-grandfather brought his fam ily from l^ n caster county. Pa.* to Union county, and settled in K elly township, nc.ir lew isb u rg. There he engaged in farming for the remain­ der of his life, and died upon his property. His children w ere: Adam, David* .braham* John, and several daughters. David G rove w as one of the pioneers of K cllv township. Union county, and died on the farm which he had acquirt^ and operated. He nurried M ary (>eml>crling* and thcir chil­ dren w ere: A braham : Adam* who is deccascil; l.cw is. deceased; Philip* who is resid­ ing near l.ewisburg* I 'a .; and Elizabeth, who nurried Andrew Leshcr and lives in Lew isInirg, Pennsylvania. Abraham Grove, son o f David G rove, is a farm er in K elly township, where he owns farm ing property. He married M ary C . W al­ ter* daughter o f Solomon W alter and sister o f ex-Ju d ge L . S . W alter, o f Mount Carm el, Pa. M r. and M rs. G rove became the parents of the following children: Minnie* who is deceased: David W,* who is clerking fo r his brother, Herbert S .; Ijllie C.. who m arried Kev, Caleb A y e rs; John M .. who owns and operates a farm in Union county; H arry W.* who is also clerking for his brother. H erbert S . : CTteslcr G e o ^ c; Herbert S ,; .Nbraham M .; Edwin W; and Franklin A . Herbert S . (k o v e attended (he schools o f K elly township and the Milton high school, renuining at home until he had attained his m a­ jority. .At that time he took a business course in a commercial c o l l i e at Rochester. N . Y ., and in 1902 came to Catawdssa, where w ith only fifty dollars o f capital he embarked in the confectionery business in a small way. Fro m the lieginning he w as successful* notwithstand­ ing the fact that his health for the first eight years o f his business career w as such that the physicians said Hfc w as only a matter o f a few years. H e underwent an absolute fast o f thirty-four days, as advised by his physician.
