On a table covered with a red cloth lie several books, a skull, a candlestick with the candle extinguished, a sheet of paper inscribed " Vanitas vanitatum," and other objects, all illumined by a ray of sunlight. On a post hangs a dead cock with fine feathers. On a table is a coloured willow basket in which a red cabbage and carrots and turnips are lying on straw. On the table also are two dead ducks and a neat little basket of eggs, one of which is broken so that the contents run out. At the back is a curtain. Of admirable fineness and delicacy.
