Mr. Britain moved that the Council resolve itself into a committee of the whole on the bill to provide for the election of a printer to the Council, and to prescribe his compensation and duties.
Mr. Bacon moved to lay the bill on the table. This motion was disagreed to.
The Council then resolved itself into a committee of the whole on the said bill; and, after some time spent therein, the committee rose, and Mr. Stockton reported that the committee of the whole had had the bill under consideration, and instructed him to report progress, and ask leave to sit again.
Mr. Martin moved that leave be granted.
And the question on this motion being taken by yeas and nays, it was decided in the affirmative, as follows:

On motion of Mr. Bacon,
Resolved by the Legislative Council of the Territory of Michigan, That Sheldon M'Knight, printer to the Council, be authorized to print and stitch twelve hundred copies of the acts passed at the present session of the Council, and two hundred copies of the Journal; and that the secretary of the territory be authorized to furnish copies for publication of the same.
Mr. Renwick presented the account of Watkins and Moon, and sundry other accounts.
Mr. Britain presented the account of Sheldon M'Knight.
The foregoing accounts were severally referred to the committee on expenditures.
Mr. Doty from a select committee, made the following report, which was laid on the table:
The select committee appointed to investigate the causes which delayed the printing and delivering the volume of the condensed laws, report,
That they were unable to enter into a full examination of the subject referred to them, on account of the absence from the Territory of the late secretary of the Council, whose duty it was to direct the order in which said laws should be published.
The committee beg leave to refer to the statements accompanying this report, and to remark that none of the statements which they have received charge the person employed to print the volume with the causes of said delay.
And the committe ask to be discharged from the further consideration of said subject.
