the report of the librarian of the 28th ultimo was referred, moved that the said report be accepted, and that the following resolutions be adopted:
Resolved, That the librarian cause catalogues of the books in the library to be printed, arranged in alphabetical order, leaving blank leaves for such additions as shall from time to time be made, with the rules of the library annexed.
Resolved, That the librarian advertise the four volumes reported by him as missing from the library, and take such other measures as he may deem necessary for their recovery.
The motion was agreed to.
On motion of Mr. Doty the Council resolved itself into a committee of the whole on the bill "concerning the action of right;" and, after some time spent therein, the committee rose, and Mr. Martin reported that the committee of the whole had had the said bill under consideration, and had directed him to report progress and ask leave to sit again.
On motion of Mr. Hascall, the said bill was re-committed to the committee on the judiciary.
On motion of Mr. Stockton, the Council resolved itself into a committee of the whole on the bill "to provide for the election of a county assessor, and for other purposes;" and, after some time spent therein, the committee rose, and Mr. Renwick reported that the committee of the whole had had the said bill under consideration, and instructed him to report progress and ask leave to sit again.
Leave was accordingly granted.
On motion of Mr. Hascall, the Council proceeded to the consideration of executive business, and having attended to the same,
Mr. Durocher asked and obtained leave to bring in a bill amendatory of an act entitled "an act to provide for the assessment and collection of territorial taxes."
Messrs. Durocher, Moran and Doty were appointed a committee to prepare the bill.
The Council adjourned.
Mr. Renwick presented a petition from sundry inhabitants of township 3 south, range 5 east, in the county of Washtenaw, praying to be organized into a separate township, to be called Lodi. Referred to the committee on territorial affairs.
Mr. Millington presented a petition from sundry inhabitants of township 3 south, range 6 east, in the county of Washtenaw, praying to be set off* as a separate township, by the name of Pitt. Referred to the committee on territorial affairs.
Mr. Renwick presented a petition from Eleazer Smith, jr. and Homer B. Smith, praying for authority to convey certain real estate therein specified. Referred to the committee on the judiciary.
