Mr. Hascall presented a petition from sundry inhabitants of the county of Oakland, praying for the incorporation of a company to construct a rail road from the city of Detroit, in the county of Wayne, to Pontiac, in the county of Oakland. Referred to the committee on internal improvement.
Mr. Farnsworth presented a petition from Sidney S. Hawkins, of the city of Detroit, praying for an alteration in the law relative to sales at auction. Referred to the committee on the judiciary.
Mr. Durocher presented an additional account of F. H. Stevens against the Legislative Council.
Mr. Renwick presented the accounts of Stephen Wells, for stationery and binding.
The preceding accounts were severally referred to the committee on expenditures.
The president announced, that he had transmitted to the Honorable Lucius Lyon, Delegate in Congress from this Territory, the resolution requesting the said Delegate to solicit the enactment of a law by Congress tor the establishment of a Territorial Government west of Lake Michigan.
On motion of Mr. Britain,
Resolved, That the committee on militia be instructed to inquire into the expediency of so amending "an act to organize the militia," approved April 17, 1833, that regimental musters and battalion trainings may be held between the 15th of May and the 15th of June.
On motion of Mr. Bacon,
Resolved, That the committee on incorporations inquire into the expediency of so amending the sixth section of the charter of the Bank of River Raisin, as to require the oath or affirmation of the president and cashier of said bank to the fiscal statements of said bank, and such other amendments as may be deemed necessary.
Mr. Satterlee laid on the table the following resolution:
Resolved, That a select committee be appointed to inquire into the expediency of memorializing Congress for the passage of a law authorizing an additional number of members to be elected to the Lagislative Council not exceeding six, in case Congress do not, at its present session, pass a law to authorize the people of this Territory to form a constitution for our admission into the Union as a state government.
On motion of Mr. Hascall, the report yesterday made by the committee on territorial affairs, in relation to the bill to organize the township of Mia and Commerce, in Oakland county, was recommitted to the same committee.
