The engrossed bill to create and establish a common school fund. being read a third time,

Mr. Bacon moved to fill the blank in the 10th section with "3,000 dollars;" which motion was disagreed to.

Mr. Bacon moved to fill the blank with "2,000 dollars." This motion was also lost.

Mr. Millington moved to fill the blank with "1,800 dollars. This motion was likewise lost.

On motion of Mr. Doty, the said blank was filled with "1,000 dollars."

And on the question, "Shall the bill pass?" it was decided in the affirmative, as follows:

Yeas: Messrs. Bacon, Britain, Doty, Durocher, Farnsworth, Millington, Moran, Renwick, Satterlee, Stockton, M'Donell, president—11.

Nays: Messrs. Hascall, Martin—2.

On motiom of Mr. Martin, the Council resolved itself into a committee of the whole on bill No. 22, to incorporate the village of St. Joseph; and, after some time spent therein, the committee rose, and Mr. Bacon reported that the committee of the whole had had the said bill under consideration, and instructed him to report progress and ask leave to sit again.

Leave was accordingly granted.

The Council adjourned.

Thursday, February 20, 1834.

The President laid before the Council a communication from the cashier of the Bank of Michigan, transmitting a statement of the condition of the said bank, on the 31st of January, 1834.

Mr. Bacon presented a communication from the president and directors of the Bank of River Raisin, containing a statement of the condition of the said bank on the 1st of February, 1834. The foregoing statements were referred to the committee on incorporations, and, together with a statement of the funds of the Farmers and Mechanics' Bank on the 1st of January 1834, and previous communications from the aforesaid banks, ordered to be printed.

Mr. Britain presented a petition from sundry inhabitants of the county of Calhoun, praying that the four south-east townships in said county may be organized into a separate township. Referred to the committee on territorial affairs.

Mr. Britain presented a petition from sundry inhabitants of the Territory, praying for the passage of a law authorizing a road to be laid out from Adrian, in the county of Lenawe, to Barney's Mills, in the county of Calhoun. Referred to the committee on internal improvement.
