Precedents of Indictments ; to which is pre- fixed a concise Treatise upon the Office and Duty of Grand Jurors. 8vo. Boston. 1831. This volume contains a great variety of Precedents of Indictments for offences both at common law and on statutes. They are concisely and carefully drawn, and for the most part were used in actual cases that occurred during the thirty years practice of the author in criminal cases. They may, therefore, be regarded as authoritative on account of the learning of the compiler, and because they have passed a judicial ordeal. Appended to the Precedents are notes and references giving additional value to the work. 1 Willard's Rev. 507 ; 6 A. J. 448. . A Practical Treatise upon the Authority and Duty of Justices of the Peace in Criminal Prosecutions. 8vo. Boston. 1824. 2d ed. 1828. Davis' Justice is a valuable manual of criminal law. Though it is chiefly written with reference to the laws of Massachusetts, it will be found a convenient guide to Justices of the Peace in criminal matters in other States. 1 U. S. L. Gaz. 85 ; 19 N.
