A, D. 1534, otherwife; any Ufe, Cuftom, Bull, Compofition, Prefcription or Ordinance heretofore had, obtained or ufed to the contrary, within the aforefaid Archdeaconry, in any wife notwithftanding. CAP. XVI. An A£t for the making of Worfteds in the City of Norwich, and in the Towns of Lyn and Tarmouih. /KERE at a Parliament holden at London the fifteenth Day of April in the fourteenth Year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord the King that now is, and from thence adjourned to Wejimi'nfter the laft Day of July in the fifteenth Year of our faid Sovereign Lord, and there ended ; it was ordained, en- acled and eftablifhed, That the Craftfmen called Worited- Weavers, inhabiting in the Town of Great Yarmouth, fhould have Power and Authority by that Acl from thenceforward to elect: and choofe yearly for ever, on the Monday next after the Feaft of Pentecojl, one honeft Man of the Myftery and Occupa- tion of Worfted-Weavers, being an Houfholder within the faid Town of Great Yarmouth, and having of his proper Goods and Chattels to the Value of x. li. at the leaft, or Lands and Tenements to his own Ufe of Eftate of Freehold at the leaft to the clear yearly Value of xx. s. to be Warden of the fame Craft and Myftery of Worfted-Weavers for the Year next enfuing, which Man, fo elecled and chofen, fhould perfonally appear before the Mayor of the City of Norwich for the Time being, the Monday next after the Feaft of Corpus Chrijii then next enfuing, then and there to be fworn and charged by like Oath concerning the true and fubftantial making of Worfteds, Says and Stamins within the faid Town of Great Yarmouth, as the four Wardens of the faid City of Norwich, by Virtue of an Acl of Parliament made in the feventh Year of King Edward the Fourth, were charged and fworn for the fame City of Norwich, And If the faid Mayor happened to be abfent the faid Monday next after Corpus Chrijii, or elfe then refufed to receive or take the faid Oath, then the faid Warden fo elecl, within four Days next after the fame Monday, fhould come before the Bailiffs of the faid Town of Great Yarmouth for the Time being, or before one of them, the other being abfent, and then and there receive a corporal Oath for the true exercifing of the fame Office of Wardenfhip, after the Tenour of the Oath accuftomably ufed to be given to the faid Wardens of the faid City of Norwich ; and then the faid Warden of the faid Town of Great Yarmouth for the Time being, fo elecled and fworn, might ordain and appoint a Seal, with this Letter Y. to be graven in the fame Seal, and might have full Power and Authority to view, fearch, feize and feal in Lead with the fame Seal, fo to be appointed and engraven, and none other, all Worfteds, Says and Stamins within the faid Tow«-of Yarmouth, and Suburbs of the fame, made or to be made, and not elfewhere, in as large aiKLample Manner as the faid Wardens of the faid City of Norwich, and the Wardens of the County of Norfolk, or any of them, had within the faid City or County, or in any wife ' may do in that Behalf by Authority or Virtue of the afore remembrdd Acl:, made in the faid feventh Year ' of King Edward the Fourth ; any Thing in the fame contained to the contrary thereof notwithftanding. And that no Perfon inhabiting within the faid Town of Great Yarmouth, or Suburbs thereof, fhould weave any Worfteds, Says or Stamins within the fame Town, except he be an EngliJJmian born, and had been Apprentice to the faid Occupation, and without he weaved therein fuch proper Marks as fhould be limited and appointed by. the faid Warden of the faid Town for the Time being, elecl and fworn as is aforefaid, upon Pain of Forfeiture thereof to the King our Sovereign Lord ; and that every Warden of the faid Town fhould limit diftincl and feveral Marks to every of the faid Worfted-Weavers of the fame Town of Great Yarmouth, and the fame Marks by the faid Warden to be regiftred in a Book. ' And alfo it was further enacted, That if and whenfoever the Town of Lyn fhould be inhabited with ten fundry Houfholders, or more Number of Houfholders, exercifing and ufing the faid Craft or Myftery of Worfted-Weavers, then and from thenceforth, that is to fay, as long as the fame Town of Lyn fhould be inhabited with the Number of ten fuch Houfholders at the leaft, it fhould be lawful to the fame In- habitants of the faid Town of Lyn yearly, in the Monday next after the Feaft of Pentecojl, to elect and choofe of themfelves one Warden of the (aid Craft and Myftery of Worfted-Weavers, to be of the Va-- lue in Lands and Goods, as is aforefaid of the Warden of Yarmouth ; which Warden, fo elecl:, fhould yearly be fworn and charged at the faid City of Norwich, in like Manner and at like Day, as is before limited to the Wardens of Yarmouth ; or, in Default of the faid Mayor of Norwich, then the faid War- den, fo to be elecl: for the faid Town of Lyn, to take a corporal Oath before the Mayor of the faid Town, within fuch Time, and after fuch Form, as is before limited unto the faid Warden of Yarmouth. And that the faid Warden of the faid Town of Lyn for the Time being, fo elecl: and fworn, by himfelf might ordain and appoint a Seal with this Letter L. to be graven in the Seal, and might have full Power and Authority to view, fearch, feize and feal in Lead, with the fame Seal fo to be graven, and with none other, all Worfteds, Says and Stamins within the faid Town of Lyn and Suburbs of the fame, made or to be made, and not elfewhere, in as large and ample manner, as the faid Warden of the faid City _ of Norwich, and the Warden of the faid County of Norfolk, or any of them had within the laid City or County, or otherwife might do by Authority or Virtue of the aforefaid Acl made in the faid feventh Year of King Edward the Fourth ; any Thing contained in the fame Acl to the contrary notwithftanding. ' And that no Perfon inhabiting within the faid Town of Lyn or Suburbs thereof, mould make any Wor- fteds, Says or Stamins, within the fame Town, except he were Englijh born, and had been Apprentice to the fame Occupation, and without he weaved therein fuch proper Mark as fhould be limited and ap- pointed by the faid Warden of the fame Town of Lyn for the Time being, upon Pain of Forfeiture thereof to the King our Sovereign Lord. And that every Warden of the faid Town fhould limit diftincl and feveral Marks to every of the faid Worfted-Weavers of the fame Town, and the fame Marks by the faid Warden to be regiftred in a Book. « And
