The Breadth of Broad Cloth. every of the faid Clothiers in Form aforefaid, fhall lofc and forfeit his Cloth or Cloths wha'tfoever they be; the one Half thereof fhall be to the King's Highnefs, his Heirs and SuccefTors, and the other Half to him or them that will fue for the fame by Bill, Plaint, Aftion of Debtor otherwife; in which Action no Wager of Law, Eflpin or Protection fhall be allowed. II. And it is further enacted by Authority aforefaid, That after the faid Feaft of St. Michael the Archangel, every Broad Cloth fhall contain in Breadth feven Quarters of a Yard within the Lifts at the lead, and to hold the fame Content always, if it be proved at the Water; the Aft made in the firft Year of the Reign of our faid Sovereign Lord, that every Broad Cloth fhould contain two Yards in Breadth within the Lilts, or any other Thing therein contained, touching the keeping of the fame Breadth of two Yards, in any wife TheBreadthof notwithftanding. SEl.c. 6, Sec the References HERE AS by Aft of Parliament holden in the fifth Year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord the King that now is, it was ordained and enafted, That no Woollen Cloth above the Price of five Marks fhould be conveyed over the Sea unrowed, unbarbed and unfhorn, upon certain Penalties in the fame Aft exprefled more at large; (2) which Aft being put in Execution, fhall not only redound and turn to the Abatement of the King's Cuftoms, but alfo grow to the utter Undoing of his Grace's Sub- jefts, Cloth-makers and Merchants, Conveyers of the faid Cloths, by reafon that Wooll is rifen to a far greater Price than it was at the making of the aforefaid Aft; for where a Cloth was then commonly fold at five Marks, it is now fold for four Pounds; (3) and alfo by Force of the faid Aft, the Merchants fhould be bound to diefs every white Cloth above the Value of five Marks on this Side the Sea, after that they have bought them, which white Cloth fo drefled, when they be brought into the Parties beyond 6 the Sea, and there by the Buyers of them dyed and put in Colours, then they muft be newly drefled,

' to Sale, and fold for lefs Price by ten or twelve Shillings apiece beyond the Sea, than they fhould be un- e dreffed :' Wherefore be it ordained and enafted by the King our Sovereign Lord, his Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and the Commons, in this prefent Parliament affembled, and by Authority of the fame, That every white woollen Cloth fold for four Pounds ami under, and every coloured Cloth fold for three Pounds and under, may be carried and conveyed into the Parties beyond the Sea, there to be fold at the Pleafure of the Buyers of the faid Cloth or Cloths, unbarbed, unfhorn and unrowed; any Aft or Afts to the contrary made notwithftanding. II. And over this be it ordained and enafted by the faid Authority, That if any Perfon or Perfons fend or convey, or caufe to be fent and conveyed, into the Parts beyond the Sea, r.ny white woollen Cloth above the Value of four Pounds, or any coloured Cloth above the Price of three Pounds, unrowed, un- barbed and unfhorn, in other Form than is aforefaid, that then the Perfon or Perfons fo offending fhall forfeit the Value of the faid Cloths fo carried and conveyed into the Parties beyond the Sea; (2) the one Moiety of she faid Forfeiture to be to the Ufe of our faid Sovereign Lord the King, and the other Moiety to every Perfon which will or fhall fue by Bill, Writ, Information or otherwife, againft any Perfon for' the fame; and that the Defendant in any Plea upon any fuch Action be not admitted to wage his Law, nor any Protection or Effoin for any fuch Defendant be allowed in the fame. to the forrpo'isg Chapter. a.
