II. Provided, That this AQ:, or any thing therein contained, fhall not extend to any Meafures fealed and allowed by the Mailers, Wardens, Afllftants and Commonalty of the Freemen of the Art or Myf- tery of the Fruiterers of the City of London, to be ufed in the meafuring of Fruit fold by them in the faid City, and Liberties thereof, or within three Miles Diftance from the fame City, CAP. XVL An Aft for the enlarging and encouraging the GreenlanA Trade. WHEREAS by an A£i: made in the fourth and fifth Years of the Reign of their late Majefties King William and Qiieen Mary, for encouraging the Greenland Fifhery, a Company was thereby incorporated, giving Liberty to the faid Company, excluliye to the reft of their Majefties Sub- jedls, it is thereby enacted. That it fliall and may be lawful for the faid Company thereby eftablifhed, and for all and every the Ships and Veffcls belonging to or imployed by the faid Company, and truly be- longing to England, Wales, or the Town of Berwick upon Tweed, and whereof the Mafters fhall be Englijh Men, and inhabiting within the Places aforefaiJ, and for no other Ship or Veffel whatfoever, from and after the firft Day of May in the Year of our Lord one thoufand fix hundred ninety-three, and until, the firft Day of Ociober which fhall be in the Year of our Lord one thoufand feven hundred and feven, imployed for the catching of Whales in the Greeland Seas, and other- the Seas and Places afore- faid, during fuch their Voyages, to be navigated with one Third of the Mariners EnglijJo at the leaft, and yet to pay no further or other Cuftom for the Oil, Blubber, or Fins caught and imported in fuch Ships or Veffels, than if fuch Ships or Veffels had been navigated with three Fourths of the Mariners Engli/h; any Law, Statute or Ufage to the contrary notwithftanding : Provided always, and it is thereby further ena£ted by the Authority aforefaid, That no Englifo Ship or other Veffel belonging to England, Wales, or the Town of Berwick upon Tweed, and which fhall belong to, and be imployed by the faid Company in the catching of Whales in the Greenland Seas, and other the Seas and Places aforefaid, fhall enjoy- any Benefit or Privilege by this A<5f, unlefs fuch Ship or Veffel did proceed on her Voyage for Green- land, and thofe Seas, or for other the Seas and Places aforefaid, from England or JVales, or the Town' of Berwick upon Tiueed, and was victualled for the faid Voyage in fome of thofe Places, to be attefted' by the Colle6tor of the Port where the fame Ship or Veffel was viftualled : Notwithftanding which, the faid Company have of late wholly neglefted and loft that Trade to this Nation :' And therefore, for the enlarging and encouraging the Greenland Trade, and for the better Improvement of the fame for the Good of England, may it pleafe your Majefty that it may be enaiSted ; and be it ena£led by the Qiieen's' moft Excellent Majefty, by and with the Advice and Confent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal and Commons, in this prefent Parliament affembled, and by the Authority of the fame, That from and after the firft Day of May which fhall be in the Year of our Lord one thoufand feven hundred and two, it fhall and may be lavvful for any of her Majefty's Subjects whatfoever, that will adventure to Greenland for fifhing of Whales, to have and enjoy all the Privileges that were granted to the faid Company by the aforefaid Aft, and fhall not pay any further or other Duty, than if they had been of the faid Greenland Company ; any Law or Statute to the contrary notwithftanding.
