That it fhall and may be lawful, as well to and for the Governor and Company of the Bank of England, as to and for any other Perfon or Perfons, Natives and Foreigners, Bodies Politick or Corporate, to ad- vance and lend fuch Sum and Sums of Money, as they, or any of them, fliall think fit, to the faid Trea- furers, Paymafters and others, or any of them, upon Credit of the publick Stock before mentioned, or any Part thereof, at iuch Inlereft, and upon fuch Affignments, Mortgages or Transfers, fubje£t to fuch Con- ditions of Redemption, and with fuch Agreements for felling the Stock fo mortgaged, in Cafe of Non- payment of the Principal or Interefl, and in all other Refpects according to the Forms prefcribed in the faid recited Aft of Parliament in that Behalf; any former Adt or Acts of Parliament, or any Reftriilions, Pro- ioA"n, c. 19, hibitions. An Aft for taking away the new additional Duty of thirty Pounds per Centum ad Vakrem^ impoled upon all Books and Prints imporred into Great Britain, by an A&. made in the tench Year of the Reign of h;r prefent Majefty Queen Anne. WHEREAS by divers A£ts of Parliament heretofore made, feveral Duties have been laid upori all lo Annsjcij, Books and Prints imported into Great Britain : And whereas by an Adt made in the tenth Year of ^'^' 33- ' the Reign of her prefent Majefty Queen Anne, a further Duty of thnvif ^ounis. per Centum ad Valorem, ' was laid upon all Books and Prints imported into Grra; ^r/Vs/n; which faid Additional Duty of thirty. ' Pounds per Centum has been i'bund, by Experience, to have tended very much to the Difcouragement of ' Learning, and to have been prejudicial to the other Duties formerly laid :' Be- it therefore enacted by the After 24 Jur= Queen's nioft Excellent Majefty, by and' with the Advice and Confent of the Lords Spiritual and Terji- 'JH- *e Duty poral and Commons, in this prefent Parliament affembled, and by the Authority of the fame.
