' !• "liT7 HER E A S by Reafon of the great Increafe of Buildings and Inhabitants in and about the ' W City of Wejlminjler, the Liberty thereof, and divers other Places in the County of Middle/ex,

  • there are greater Occasions for Water, for the Safety and neceffary Ufes of the faid Inhabitants than are

' iupplied by the Water-works now in Being, and for Want thereof, many great and dangerous Incon- ' veniencies, do happen, which would be remedied, and great Advantages accrue, if new Water-works ' were erected in convenient Places for providing and fupplying the faid Inhabitants with good and whole- ' fome Water from the River Thames, by one or more Cut or Cuts to be made at any convenient Place ' or Places between the Grounds belonging to the Royal Hofpital at Chcljca, and the Houfes or Grounds,

  • commonly called the Neat Houfes, in the County of Middle/ex, into Canals and Ponds proper for receiv-

' ing the fame ; and from thence to convey and raife fuch Water into convenient Refervatories, to be ' erected or made at any Place or Places, between the Places called Oliver's Mount and Hyde Park, for ' the Purpofes of this Act :' May it therefore pleafe your moft Excellent Majefty, That it may be enacted, &c. " Commiffioners appointed for fupplying the City and Liberties of Wejlminjler, and Parts adjacent with " Water from the Chclfca Water-works. Perfons interrupting, pulling down, EsV. the Water-works, " fhall forfeit to the Commiffioners treble Damages, &c. The Crown may by Letters Patents incor- " porate the Commiffioners, who may purchafe Lands not exceeding iooo /. per Annum. The Crown " may likewife by Letters Patent impower them to make By-Laws, and inflict' Penalties for the Breach " thereof. The Commiffioners may maintain and cleanfe their Water-courfes, make new Ponds, &c. " Perfons cafting into the Water-courfes, &c. any Filth, &c. or doing other Annoyance thereto, fhall " forfeit 40 s. with double Damages and full Cofts of Suit. Commiffioners, before they intermeddle with " any Lands, &c. fhall firft agree with the Proprietors. They may lay Pipes in Highways, but fhall " repair the fame. They may lay Pipes through any Streets or common Grounds about Wejlminjler, " making good the fame, and carrying away the Rubbifh. At the Requeft of the Inhabitants the Com- " miffioners fhall fet up Pipes upright in the Likenefs of Pumps, for conveying Water into Fire-Engines'. Locks to be fitted to fuch Pipes, and Churchwardens to keep the Keys. This Aft fhall not hinder the New River Company, &c. from enjoying all lawful Rights, &c. No Proprietors of Water-works fhall hinder, tifV. the laying, &c. of the faid Pipes, Effc. An Aft for the better preventing Abules committed in weighing and packing of Butter in the City of York. For firmer Pre- ' I. s ' Orafmuch as Butter is one of the chief Commodities of the Product of feveral Parts of the County •vifwm concerning <■ J£ f York, and County of the fame City, and great Quantities thereof are brought into the City of Ed'c'c 21 ' York, from thence to be tranfported beyond the Seas, and otherwife difpofed of: And whereas there hath, 21 Jac. 1. c'.iz. ' Time out of Mind, been within the faid City a free Market for Butter, which for many Years laft paft 13 & i4&r.i, ' hath been kept in Micklegate in the faid City : And whereas the bringing of Butter to the faid Market, <; 26. 32 Car. ' where the fame was fearched and weighed, hath been found to be the mod effectual Means of prevent- |- c 'fZ' M * ^ 5 ' ing the falfe weighing and packing of Butter, and did formerly gain a great Reputation, both at Home " c ' 7 ' ' and Abroad, to Butter brought to the faid Market ; but of late Years feveral Farmers of Dairies, Owners, ' and other Traders in Butter, the better to conceal the falfe weighing and packing of their Butter, to be ' tfy them difpofed of, have neglected to bring the fame to the faid Market to be fearched and weighed, by ' Means whereof not only the Traders in the faid Commodity at Home, but Foreigners alfo have been ' greatly deceived in the Weight, Goodnefs and Soundnefs thereof, and thereby the faid Commodity yields ' not that Price, nor is fold in fuch Quantities, as otherwife it would be : For Remedy whereof, and for ' the better incouraging the faid Butter Trade, and (in order thereunto) for the better preventing the

  • ■' After March 25, 1722. Micklegate, or any other Place in York, (at the Election of the Mayor, &c.) fhall

" every Day in the Week, except Sundays, be a Free Market for Butter. All Butter brought to Tori to f ' be fold, exported, &c, fhall be weighed, fearched and fealed at the Market at one Half-penny a Firkin, " &c, Dairy-Farmer, £ffr. felling or tranfporting Butter before it be brought to the Market to be " viewed, &c, fhall forfeit for every Firkin, b>c. 3 s. ^d. One Half to the Poor, where, &c. the other

  • to the Informer, If any Firkin, &c. of Butter, fhall be faulty in Quantity or Quality, the Owner fhallv

" be liable to the Forfeitures in 13 & 14 Car. 2. c. 26. Profecution to be in four Months. The Mayor tc ( ' appoint the Searcher, who fhall be fworn at Eajler Seffions.
