Mayor to iiTue Precepts to the Companies to bring in Lifts, C. 18. Anno tmdecimo Georgii Regis. A.D. 1724, 1 above mentioned Oaths and Affirmations; and if any fuch prefiding Officer or Officers, fworn Clerk or Clerks, fhall negleft or refufe fo to do, or frail otherwife offend in the Premiffes, contrary to the true ■ Intent and Meaning of this Aft, every fuch Officer and fworn Clerk fhall for every fuch Offence forfeit the Sum of fixty Pounds of lawful Money of Great Britain, befides Cofts of Suit. III. And it is hereby further enafted, That if any Perfon or Perfons fhall wilfully, falfly and corruptly take the faid Oaths or Affirmations fet forth and appointed in and by this Aft, or either of them, and be thereof lawfully convifted by Indictment or Information, or if any Perfon or Perfons fhall corruptly pro- cure or fuborn any other Perfon to take the faid Oaths or Affirmations or either of them, whereby he ihall wilfully and falfly take the faid Oaths or Affirmations or either of them, and the Perfon fo procuring or fuborning fnail be thereof convifted by Indiftment or Information ; every Perfon fo offending fhall for every fuch Offence incur and fuffer fuch Penalties, Forfeitures and Difabilities, as Perfons convifted of wilful and corrupt Perjury at the Common Law are liable unto. ' IV. And to the Intent that the Poll at every fuch Eleftion may be expeditioufly and duly taken ;.' Be it further enafted by the Authority aforefaid, That if a Poll fhall be demanded at any of the Elections before-mentioned, after the faid firft Day of June in the Year of our Lord one thoufand feven hundred and twenty-five, the prefiding Officer or Officers at fuch Eleftion fhall begin fuch Poll the Day the fame fhall be demanded, or the next Day following at the furtheft, unlefs the fame fhall happen on a Sunday, and then on the next Day after, and fhall duly and orderly proceed thereon from Day to Day {Sundays ex- cepted) until fuch Poll be finifhed, and fhall finifh the Poll at Eleftions by the Liverymen within (even Days, exclufive of Sundays, and the Poll at the Wardmote within three Days, exclufive of Sunday, after the commencing the fame refpeftively, and fhall upon adjourning the Poll on each Day, at all and every the Eleftions aforefaid, feal up the Poll-Books with the Seals, and in the Prefence of fuch of the refpec- tive Candidates, or Perfons deputed by them, as fhall defire the fame, and the faid Poll-Book fhall not be opened again but at the Time and Place of Meeting, in Purfuance of fuch Adjournment ; and after the faid Poll is finifhed, the faid Poll-Books, being fealed as aforefaid,, fhall within two Days after be publickly opened at the Place of Election, and be duly and truly caft up, and within two Days after fuch cafting up, the Numbers of the Votes or Polls for each Candidate fhall be truly, fairly and publickly declared to the Eleftors at the Place of Eleftion, by the Officer or Officers prefiding at fuch Election ; and if a Scrutiny fhall, upon fuch Declaration made, be lawfully demanded, the fame fliall be granted and proceeded upon, and the refpeftive Candidates fhall immediately nominate to the prefiding Officer or Officers at fuch Eleftions, any Number of Perfons qualified to vote at fuch Eleftion, not exceeding fix, to be Scrutineers for and on Behalf of the Candidate or Candidates on each Side, to whom the prefiding Officer or Officers at fuch Eleftion fhall, within fix Days next after fuch Scrutiny fhall be demanded, upon Requeft and at the Charge of the Candidate or Candidates, or any the Scrutineers on his or their Behalfs, deliver or caufe to be delivered to him or them a true Copy, figned by fuch Officer or Officers, of the Poll taken at fuch Eleftion ; and all and every the Scrutinies to be had or taken upon any Eleftion to be made by the Liverymen of the faid City, fhall begin within ten Days after the Delivery of the Co- pies of the faid Polls,- and be proceeded on Day by Day {Sundays excepted) and fhall be finifhed within fifteen Days after the Commencement of fuch Scrutiny ; and thereupon the prefiding Officer or Officers fhall, within four Days after the finifning fuch Scrutiny, publickly declare at the Place of fuch Eleftion, which of the Candidates is or are duly elefted, and the Number of legal Votes for each Candidate appear- ing to him or them upon fuch Scrutiny ; and on the Eleftion of any Officer or Officers at the refpeftive Wardmotes of the faid City, if a Scrutiny be demanded, the Candidates, or Scrutineers nominated on their Behalfs refpeftively fhall, within ten Days next after 'the Receipt of the Copy or Copies of the Polls taken at fuch Election, deliver or caufe to be delivered to the prefiding Officer or Officers, the Names, in . Writing of the feveral Perfons who have polled in the faid Eleftion, againft whofe Votes they fh all objeft, with the particular Objeftions againft each refpeftive Name ; and the prefiding Officer or Officers fhall thereupon, within three Days then next following, at the Requeft and Charges of any Candidate or Can- didates, or the Scrutineers named on his or their Behalfs, deliver or caufe to be delivered to him or them,- one or more true Copy or Copies (figned as aforefaid) of the Paper containing fuch Names and Objeftions as aforefaid ; and the faid prefiding Officer or Officers, within ten Days then next following (exclufive of Sundays) after having fully heard fuch of the faid Candidates as fhall defire the fame, or fome Perfon ap- pointed by him or them, touching fuch Objeftions, fhall, at or in the Place of Eleftion, openly and publickly declare which of the faid Candidates is or are duly elefted, and the Number of legal Votes for each Candidate appearing to him or them upon fuch Scrutiny; and if the faid prefiding Officer or Offi- cers, or any other Perfon or Perfons fhall offend in the Premiffes, every fuch Offender ihall forfeit for. every fuch Offence the Sum of two hundred Pounds of lawful Money of Great Britain, with full Cofts of Suit, over and above all other Penalties and Forfeitures inflicted by any other Aft or Afts of Parliament. V. And be it further enafted by the 1 Authority aforefaid, That after any Eleftion made, and Scrutiny taken, as is herein before provided and direfted, the prefiding Officer or Officers at fuch Eleftion and Scrutiny fhall deliver, under his or their Hand or Hands, a true Li ft ..of the Voters by him or them dis- allowed upon fuch Scrutiny, to any of the Candidates who fhall, upon the final Declaration of the Elec- tion as aforefaid, demand the fame within fix Days after fuch Demand made, fuch Candidate paying for the fame : Provided always, That no fuch Lift as is hereby direfted to be given, nor any Thing therein, contained, fhall be admitted to be given in Evidence on any Action or Occafion w'hatfoever. VI, And be it further enafted by the Authority aforefaid, That the Mayor of the City of London for the Time being, upon Requeft to him made by any Candidate or Candidates, his or their Agent or AgentSj at any Eleftion of a Citizen or Citizens to ferve in Parliament for the laid City, or of a Mayor, 3 or
