An Adl to explain and amend a Claufe in an Act paffed in the fecond Year of his Majefly's Reign (For making more effeSlual feveral Affs relating to Watermen, Wberrymen and Lightermen rowing on the River Thames) fo far as the fame relates to Ferry Boats and flat-bottomed Boats. c HEREAS by a Claufe in an Act paffed in the fecond Year of the Reign of his prefent Ma- ' VV jefty King George the Second, intituled, An Ail for making more ejfeftual feveral Ails pafjedre- ' la ting to Watermen, Wherrymen and Lightermen rowing on the River Thames, and for better ordering and ' governing fuch Watermen, Wherrymen and Lightermen, it is amongft other Things enacted, That if any
- Perfon or Perfons, not having ferved for the Space of feven Years to any Waterman, Wherryman or
1 Lighterman (except Trinitymen, Fifhermen, Ballaftmen and Perfons imployed in rowing or any ways
- navigating Weftern Barges, Mill Boats, Chalk Hoys, Faggot and Wood Lighters, Dung Boats and
' Gardiners Boats, in fuch Manner as had been accuftomed and was allowed and referved in an Act made ■' in the eleventh and twelfth Years of King William the Third) fhould row or caufe to be rowed or ' worked any Boat, Wherry, Lighter or other Veffel or Craft, upon the faid River for Hire or Gain ' between Gravefend in the County of Kent and Windfor in the County of Berks, and being thereof con- ' victed, fhould be liable to fuch Forfeiture and Punifhment as therein is mentioned: And whereas fome 4 Doubts have lately arifen touching Ferry Boats worked or ufed at or between the Towns of Kingfton ' and Windfor on the River of Thames, whether the fame be deemed large Craft, and alfo touching flat- ' bottomed Boats and Barges navigated from and to the faid Towns of Kingflon and Windfor, or Places ' between the faid Towns on the faid River of Thames, from and to other Places on the faid River, whe- ' ther the fame be deemed Weftern Barges or not, and by Means whereof feveral Profecutions have been 4 had, to the Interruption of Trade and enhancing the Price of the Carriage of Goods :' For Remedy whereof, Be it enacted by the King's moft Excellent Majefty, by and with the Advice and Confent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this prefent Parliament affembled, and by the Au- thority of the fame, That all fuch Ferry Boats fhall not be deemed or taken to be large Craft, and that all flat-bottomed Boats and Barges navigated from the faid Towns of Kingflon or Windjor, or Places between the faid Towns, to any other Place or Places on the faid River of Thames, and from thence to the faid Towns of Kingflon or Windfor, or Places between the faid Towns, (hall be deemed and taken to be Weftern Barges, and fhall and may navigate on the faid River of Thames as far as London Bridge, as freely as any Weftern Barge may navigate thereon; and that no Perfon or Perfons working or uiing fuch Ferry Boats at or between the faid Towns, nor any Perfon or Perfons navigating fuch flat-bot- tomed Boats or Barges on the faid River, fhall be fubjector liable to any Pains, Penalties or Forfeitures laid or impofed by the faid recited Act of Parliament or any Act of Parliament therein mentioned. II. And be it enacted by the Authority aforefaid, That this Act fhall be deemed, adjudged and taken in all Courts and Places within this Kingdom to be a publick Act; and all Judges, Juftiees and other Perfons are hereby required to take Notice thereof as fuch, without fpecially pleading the lame. CAP. XXV. An Act for confirming an Agreement lately entered into between the Mayor, Aldermen and Citizens of the City of Worcefter, and the Guardians of the Poor of the faid City, for continuing the Hop-Market of the faid City in the Workhoufe there ; and for vert- ing the Right of the faid Mayor, Aldermen and Citizens, of keeping a Hop-Market in the faid City, in the Guardians of the Poor of the faid City, and their Succefibrs for ever. PR. WHEREAS the Mayor, Aldermen and Citizens of the City of Worcefter, have agreed to grant unto the Guardians of the Poor of the faid City, and their SuccelTors for ever, the Liberty, Privilege and Power of holding and keeping in or at the publick Workhoufe of the faid City, now v.efted in the faid Guardians, a publick and open Market for the buying and felling of Hops only, commonly called a Hop-Market, and all their Right and Title thereto, and to the Tolls, Profits and Advantages arifing therefrom ; fubject neverthelefs, and charged and chargeable with the Payment of the yearly Rent of fixty Pounds clear of all Taxes, Parilh Rates and Outgoings whatfoever, impofed ,or to be impofed thereupon ; relerving to the faid Mayor, Aldermen and Citizens of the faid City, and their SuccelTors for ever, the Liberty and Power of nominating and appointing a Hop-weigher to attend the faid Market, and to be imployed in the weighing of all Hops to be bought and fold in the faid Market, who is to be allowed a yearly Salary of twenty Pounds, to be paid by the faid Mayor, 8 ' Aldermen.
