An Act for repairing the Roads from Henley Bridge the County of Oxford, to Dorcheffer Bridge, and from '■ thence to Culham Bridge, and to a Place called Mile-Jlone, in the Road leading to Magdalene Bridge in the faid County. PR. Certain Tolls are granted from i May 1736, for 21 Years. CAP. XV. An A<5b for enabling the Mayor, Bailiffs and Burgeffes of the Borough of New Windfor in ' the County of Berks, to repair and maintain their great Bridge over the River of Thames, and the Way thereon, leading from the faid Borough of New Windfor, to Eton in the County of Bucks. P R. « TT J HERE AS the Mayor, Bailiffs and Burgeffes of the Borough of New Windfor in the County

  • VV of Berks, are lawfully feized of the great Bridge over the River Thames, commonly called or
  • known by the Name of Windfor Bridge, fet, lying and being in New Windfor aforefaid, and of the

' Way thereon leading from New Windfor aforefaid, to Eton in the County of Buds, with the Appurte- c nance thereof, and are obliged by reafon of their Tenure to repair and maintain the fame ; and for

  • that Purpofe by themfelves, their Officers, Deputies or Affigns, have received, and are intitled to

' receive, certain cuftomary Tolls for Pontage and Paffage over and under the faid Bridge ; that is to ' fcy, The Toll, ' For every Hearfe or Coach paffing over the faid Bridge with a dead Corpfe, fix Shillings and eight

  • Pence.
  • For every Hackney Coach (not a Freeman's) for every Paffage, two Pence.
  • For every Load, Paffage or Carriage with Houihold Goods, Wooll, Earthen Ware, Charcoal and

' Leather, four Pence.

  • For every Load, Paffage or Carriage, with Corn, Hay, Straw, Dung, Wood and Peat, two Pence.
  • For every Score of Sheep, two Pence.
  • For every Head of Oxen, Hogs and other Cattle, one Halpenny.

' For every Horfe loaded with Hampers, or otherwife, one Halfpenny.

  • For every Barge going under the faid Bridge down Stream, fix Pence.
  • And whereas the faid Mayor, Bailiffs and Burgeffes have, by Indenture of Leafe, bearing Date the
  • twelfth Day of September one thoufand feven hundred and feven, demifed the faid Bridge and Tolls for
  • the Term of forty Years, and under the yearly Rent of five Pounds, and fubjedt to the Exceptions and

' Conditions therein expreffed, to John Herring of Windfor aforefaid, Grocer, his Executors, Admini- ' ftrators and Affigns : And whereas the faid Bridge, which is of great Advantage to the Commerce of

  • the adjacent Counties, as well as of the faid Borough, is now in a ruinous Condition, and no Provifion

' is made for fupporting the fame, otherwife than by the Monies arifing from the Profits of the Tolls

  • herein before and after mentioned, the Payment whereof hath of late been refufed by feveral Perfons,

' and cannot be recovered but by bringing feparate Actions againft each particular Perfon fo refilling^ ' which muff be attended with great Expence and Delay j ' May it therefore pleafe your moft Excellent Majefty that it may be enacted, C9Y. " The faid Bridge, &c. fubject to the faid Leafe, vefted in the Mayor, &c. who may appoint Collectors. " The Profits of the Ferry, whilft the Bridge is repairing, vefted in the Mayor, &c. Ferry not to " continue longer than the neceffary Reparations of the Bridge, which are to be finifhed in 3 Months. " 10 s. Penalty on any Perfon, not authorized by the Mayor, C57V. working a Boat within 2 Furlongs of " the Bridge to hinder the Toll. CAP. XVI. An Act for continuing the Term and Powers granted by an Act paffed in the fourth Year of the Rei<m f his late Majefty King George the Firft, intituled, An Act for repairing the Highways from Crown ^Cor- ner in the Town 0/^ Reading (leading by and through the feveral Parijhes of Shinfield anaf Heckfield, in the ' s, Wilts and Southampton) to Bafingftoke in the faid County of Southampton, feveral Counties of Berks 'PR.
