' VIII. And whereas the feveral Dealers in Tea, and other Traders, fubject to the Survey of the Oni-
- cers appointed by the Commiflioners of Excife, are required by the Laws concerning the Duties of Ex-
- cifes and other Duties under the Management of the faid Commiffioners, to make true and particular
- Entries of Shops, Warehoufes, Rooms, Places and Utenfils, by them made ufe of for carrying on tin ir
- respective Trades ; and whereas many Perfons, in order to avoid fuch Penalties as they may incur by
- Offences committed againft the faid Laws, have of late frequently made, or procured to be made, fuch
' Entries in fictitious Names, or in the Names of mean and obfeure Perfons, of little or no Ability or
- - Subftance, and who have little or no Intereft or Property in the Stock of" fuch Trades ; and whereas
- many fuch Traders, being the real Proprietors and Owners of fuch Shops, and other Places, and who
- generally attend in fuch Shops, and carry on their refpective Trades there, pretend to be only Servants
' or Managers to fuch fictitious or obfeure Perfons, and do refufe to difcover the Places of Refidence of ' fuch Perfons, in whofe Names fuch Entries have been made ; whereby great Frauds pais unpunifhed ;' For Remedy whereof, Be it further enacted by the Authority aforefaid, That from and after the faid Means to f re- twenty-fourth Day of June one thoufand feven hundred and forty-five, any Entry now made, or here- vent Fraudt by after to be made, of any Shop, Warehoufe, Room, Place or Utenfil, to be made ufe of for carrying on fifl' li,)U s Naaie5 ' any the Trade or Trades aforefaid, fhall not be deemed or taken to be a legal Entry, unlefs the fame be made in the Name of the true and real Owner or Owners of, and Trader and Traders in fuch Shop or Place ; and that the Perfon or Perfons who fhall act as vifible Owner, Occupier or Proprietor, Owners, Perfon aaing Occupiers or Proprietors of any fuch Shop or Place whatfoever, or principal Manager or Managers in " s 0w ." C l' the carrying on fuch Trade there, fhall be deemed and taken to be the real Owner and Trader, Owners T^rOwner. and Traders, and fhall be fubject and liable, as fuch, to all Duties, Penalties and Forfeitures, impofed by any Act relating to the Duties of Excife, or any other Duty under the Management of the faid Com- miffioners, for or by reafon of any Stock, Goods or Commodities made, kept, or found there, or for not making true and particular Entries of fuch Shops, Places, or Utenfils, according to Law, or for any other Offences committed, or that fhall be committed by the Owners, Traders, Dealers in, or Makers of any fuch Goods or Commodities of, at or in fuch Shops or Places; and that all Stock, Goods, Goods,&c. found Commodities and Utenfils, which fhall be found in or upon fuch Shops or Places, fhall be fubject to, in Places of and charged with all fuch Duties, Penalties and Forfeitures. Trade, fubjeft, ' IX. And whereas feveral Quantities of Tea, which have already been, or may be fold at the publick ' Sales by the faid United Company of Merchants of England trading to the Eaji Indies, may happen to c be and remain on the faid twenty-fourth Day of June one thoufand feven hundred and forty-five, in ' fome one or more of the Warehoufes, appointed in purfuance of the faid Act of the tenth Year of the ioCeo. i. c. 10,

by the Authority aforefaid, That all fuch Teas which have been fold, or fliall be fold before the faid Teas fold, and twenty-fourth Day of June one thoufand feven hundred and forty-five, and which neverthelefs fhall re- remaining in the main and be found in fuch Warehoufe or Warehoufes on the faid twenty-fourth Day of June one thou- w "ehoufes, fand feven hundred and forty-five, fhall be liable to, and be charged with the aforefaid Duties of one la e " Shilling per Pound Weight, and twenty-five Pounds per Centum upon the grofs Price of all Teas taken out of fuch Warehoufe or Warehoufes ; and for afcertaining and adjufting the faid Duty of twenty-five Means of afoer- Pounds per Centum on the grofs Price, the faid United Company of Merchants of England trading to tuning the Duty the Eaji Indies, fhall and are hereby required to lay before the faid Commiflioners, for°the faid Inland ° 5 ' - f,erCent * Duties by this Act granted, a Lift of the Names of the Perfons to whom the Teas, remaining in any fuch Warehoufe or Warehoufes on the faid twenty-fourth Day of June one thoufand feven hundred and forty-five, were fold, together with the Prices at which the fame were fold at the faid Company's publick Sale ; and the faid United Company are hereby alfo required to permit the Officer or Officers for the Duties by this Act granted, who fhall be appointed to attend the publick Sales of the faid United Com- pany as aforefaid, upon Requeft to the Court of Directors of the faid Company, to infpect all and every their Book and Books, containing the Names of the feveral Perfons, to whom any Tea remaining in any fuch Warehoufe on the faid twenty-fourth Day of June one thoufand feven hundred and forty-five, were fold, and the particular Price or Prices at which the fame were fold ; any Thing herein before contained to the contrary thereof in any wife notwithftanding. ' X. And whereas it may happen, that the Tea imported by the faid United Company of Merchants
- of England trading to the Eaji Indies, may not always be fufficient to anfwer the Confumption thereof
- in Great Britain, and to keep the Price of Tea in this Kingdom upon an Equality with the Price there -
- of in other the neighbouring Countries of Europe ;' Be it therefore enacted by the Authority aforefaid,
