And it is hereby enacted, That all the faid Bills, fo to be prepared and made, fhall be num- • bered arithmetically, beginning with N° I. and fo proceeding in an arithmetical Progrcffion afcending, wherein the common Excels or Difference fhall always be one, and fhall be regirtered accordingly, fo that the principal Sum to be contained in every fuch Bill (after Repayment of the Loans which fhall have been made as aforefaid, if any fuch be, with the Intereft thereof, or rcferving Money fufficient for that Purpofe) may regularly be paid off', and discharged in courfe, according to the Number of every fuch Bill, as it fhall ftaiid in the faid Regifter ; and that the Intereft upon all and every the faid Bills fhall be payable every three Months, according to the Purport and true Meaning of this Ait; and that upon every fuch Bill there fhall be indorfed, printed or written, in Words at Length, or in Figures, the Sum after which the Principal to be contained therein fhall be payable in fuch Courfe, as aforefaid, according to the Purport and true Mean- ing of this Act. CXLV. Provided always, and be it enacted by the Authority aforefaid, That in cafe the faid Sum, not exceeding two millions, fhall be raifed partly by Loans, and partly by Exchequer Bills, according to the Powers before given by this Act ; that then, and in fuch Cafe, it fhall and may be lawful to and for the Commiffioners of his Majefty's Treafury, or any three or more of them now being, or the High Trea- furer, or any three or more of the Commiffioners of the Treafury for the Time being, when and as often as they fhall, by virtue of the faid Powers, direct any fuch Loans to be taken, or any fuch Exchequer Bills to be made out, at the fame Time alfo to direct and appoint the Courfe and Order in which fuch Loans and Exchequer Bills fhall ftand upon the fa>:d Regifter, and after what Sum they fhall reflectively begin to be payable in courfe, out of the Monies arifing by this Act, fo as no fubfequent Loans or Exchequer Bills be made to alter the Courfe at firft appointed for prior J^oans or Exchequer Bills, at the Time of taking in, or making out, fuch prior Loans or Exchequer Bills ; any Thing herein before contained to the contrary notwithstanding. CXLVI. And it is hereby further enacted, That all the faid Bills fhall be prepared and made with fuch Cheques, Indents or Counterfoils, as fhall be directed by the Commiffioners of the Treafury, or any three or more of them now being, or by the High Treafurer, or any three or more of the Commiffioners of the Treafury for the Time being; and that the Perfon orPerfons, who is, are, or fhall be appointed to pay off the faid Bills in courfe, fhall, from Time to Time, have theUfeand Cuftoc'y of one Part of all the Cheques, Indents, or Counterfoils of the faid Exchequer Bills, to be prepared and made by virtue of this Act, from which the faid Bills fhall have been cut, to prevent his or their being impofed upon by counterfeit or forged Bills ; and that the Undertakers or Contractors for exchanging or circulating the faid Bills, or fuch of them as fhall be current, fhall, from Time to Time, have the TJfe and Cuftody of one other Part of all the faid Cheques, Indents, or Counterfoils of the faid Exchequer Bills, from which the fame fhall have been cut off, as aforefaid, in order to prevent their being impofed upon by any counterfeit or forged Bills ; and that all the faid Parts of the faid Cheques, Indents, or Counterfoils fhall be delivered back into the Exchequer, when the faid Bills to be made forth by virtue of this Act fhall be paid off, cancelled and difcharged. CXLVII. And it is hereby enacted, That the faid Commiffioners of the Treafury, or any three or more, of them now being, and the faid High Treafurer, or any three or more of the Commiffioners of the Trea- fury for the Time being, fhall and they are hereby refpectively authorized and impowered to caufe fuch Bills as fhall be prepared by virtue of this Act, to be placed as fo much Cafh in the refpective Offices of the Tellers of the faid Receipt of Exchequer, each and every of which Tellers fhall be feverally charged with a Proportion of the faid Bills, which fhall be fo placed in his Office reflectively ; any Law or Ufage to the contrary notwithftanding. CXLVIII. And be it further enacted by the Authority aforefaid, That all the faid Bills to be iffued as aforefaid, fhall be current in like Manner, and with fuch Privileges and Advantages, and fubject to fuch Rules and Directions, as are prefcrib:d and enacted by an Act of this prefent Seffion of Parliament, inti- tuled, An Act for continuing and granting to his Maje/ly certain Duties upon Malt, Mum, Cyder and Perry, for the Service of theYear one thoufand fiven hundred and Jixty-f our, for or concerning the Exchequer Bills there- by authorized to be made forth ; and that all and every the Claufes and Provifoes in the faid laft-mentioned Act relating to the Currency, Exchanging or Receiving the fame laft-mentioned Exchequer Bills, by any publick Receivers of Aids, Taxes or Supplies, or in his Majefty's Receipt of the Exchequer, or for pre- venting the forging, counterfeiting, or altering the fame Bills, or for making out new Bills in the room of fuch as fhall be filled up with Indorfements, loft, burnt, defaced, or otherwife deftroyed, or for making out Exchequer Bills of five thoufand Pounds each, or for making out Exchequer Bills, without bearing In- tereft, or for making them afterwards to bear an Intereft, or a higher or lower Rate of Intereft, from Time to Time, as the Contractors fhall agree to, or for preventing any Mifapplicatlon of the Fund on which the fame are charged, or any other Mifbehaviour of any Officers concerned in the receiving, iffuing, exchanging, paying off, or cancelling the fame laft-mentioned Exchequer Bills, or for enabling the Commiffioners of the Treafury, or the High Treafurer for the Time being, to contract, from Time to Time, with any Perfon or Perfons, Body or Bodies Politick or Corporate, for Payment of the Intereft of, or exchanging for ready Money on Demand, the Exchequer Bills thereby authorized to be iffued, at a Rate or Premium not ex- ceeding four Pounds per Centum per Annum, or for preventing any Difabilities in fuch Contractors, or for making them not liable to be Bankrupts on account of fuch Com rafts, or for appointing a Paymafter or Paymafters for paying off or cancelling the fame Exchequer Bills in due Courfe and Order, fhall be ex- tended, and conffrued to extend, as well to the Exchequer Bills by this A<ft authorized to be made forth, as to the Exchequer Bills to be made forth in purfuance of the faid Act for granting and continuing the 4 Duties
