And be it further enacted, That the faid Juftices of Peace (hall caufe all the faid Accounts of Hw Account* the feveral Hearths and Stoves within the refpective Counties, to be Inrolled by the Cleric of the Peace stovefmaifbe of the laid refpective Counties, Ridings in YorlJInre, and Divilions in Lincolnfoire, and alfo a Duplicate enrolled, and thereof in Parchment, under the Hands and Seals of three or more of the Juftices of the Peace of the duplicates there- refpective Counties and pJaces aforefaid, who are hereby required to Sign the fame, to be returned into ^' ce l ^ifa his Majefties Court of Exchequer, within one month next after fuch Account delivered unto them at Peace. their refpectne Quarter-Seffions aforefaid, upon pain that the Clerk of the Peace of every fuch County, Riding, or Divifion, refpectively offending therein, fhall forfeit to his Majefty, his Heirs and SuccefTors, the fum of Two hundred pounds, for the firft month ; and for the fecond month he fhall fo neg- lect, every fuch Clerk of the Peace fhall forfeit and lofe his or their Place and Office, and the fame fhall become void accordingly; which forfeiture and penalty fhall be recovered and levied, as this A 61 directs. VI. And to the intent that the Revenue hereby arifing to his Majefty, may from time to time be paid How the Ma- into his Exchequer with as little charge as may be, be it enacted by the authority aforefaid, That the b^i'iea^re 1 refpective Treasurers and oiher Officers of the Inns of Court, Inns of Chancery, Colleges, and other ceived and paid Societies aforefaid, widiin their refpective Jurifdictions, and the feveral Petty-Conftables, Tything-men, into the Exche- Headboroughs, and fuch other Officers within the refpective Limits, Liberties and Jurisdictions, fhall quer ' every half-year, within fix days after the faid Duty fhall grow due, as aforefaid, collect, gather, and re- ceive the famt from the feveral Occupiers of the faid Hearths and Stoves, and upon payment thereof, fhall give feveral Acquittances (without taking any thing for fuch Acquittances) unto the feveral per- fons who fhall pay the fame : And that fuch Acquittances fhall be a full and perfect difcharge to every fuch perfon who fhall pay the fame, againft his Majefty, his Heirs and SuccefTors, fo that no Perfon who fhall have fuch Acquittance, fhall be molefted, fued or vexed, or put to any charge in his Ma- jefties Court of Exchequer or elfewhere. VII. And be it further enacted by the authority aforefaid, That in cafe any Perfon who is hereby P', ftre [ S p nd . . charged, or intended to be charged, to any fum or fums of Money, as aforefaid, fhall refute or negledt default of pay- 1 * to pay the fame, that then every perfon or perfons who is hereby authorized to collect the fame, fhall mem. and may levy the fame by diftrefs and fale of the Goods of the perfon and perfons fo refilling or neglecting, rendring unto the faid perfon and perfons the overplus of fuch Money as fhall remain in their hands by the laid fale, after the faid Duty and neceffaiy charges of levying the fame is dif- charged, as aforefaid. VIII. And be it further enacted by the authority aforefaid, 'i hat the aforefaid Conftables, Treafurcrs, The Duty of and other Officers who are hereby authorized to collect the aforefaid Duties, fhall within Twenty days Conftables, next after the aforefaid times at which the faid Duties (hall be due to his Majefty, as aforefaid, pay un- ^J OfficeVs to the High-Conftables of the feveral Hundreds and refpective Limits, all Inch Money as they ihall re- imoowered to ceive for the aforefaid Duties, receiving an Acquittance without paying any thing for the fame, and de- cciiea the faid ducting Two pence in the Pound for their pains in Collecting the fame ; And fhall alfo then in Writing - >utles * under his Hand deliver unto the faid High-Conftable, the Names of the Perfons of whom they receive The Allowance the fame, and alfo the Names of fuch Perfons who ought to have p.iid the refpective Duties yearly for Collecting. charged upon them, and have not paid the fame, where no diftrefs can be had. And be it further enacted, That the High-Conftab'es of the feveral Hundreds and refpective li- Within what mits, fhall within ten days next after their feveral Receipts from the faid Conftables, Headboroughs, o^ht'to be° neS Tything-men, and other Officers, pay unto the High-Sheriffs of every County, all fuch Money as they'paid to the fhall fo receive, deducting a peny in the Pound for their pains, and (hail alfo then deliver or caufe to be High-Sheriff, delivered unto the faid High-Sheriffs, the feveral Returns which they received from the Conftables, and other Officers aforefaid. X. And the refpe6tive Sheriffs fhall within thirty days after He or they fhall receive the faid Monies And when tha from the refpective Colle6tors, return the fame, together with the Names of fuch Perfons who are de- ojf^opay faulters, and had no diftrefs to be found, into his Majefties Court of Exchequer, deducting Four pence thefameinto out of twenty (hillings, and fo after that rate; whereuf Three pence to be for the Sheriffs own ufe, as the Exchequer. a reward of his pains in receiving and returning the fame ; and One peny to be paid by the Sheriff to the Clerk of the Peace, for his pains, to be recovered by the faid Clerk of the Peace by Action of Debt. XI. Provided always, and be it enacted, That the High-Sheriff of Londcn and Middkfcs for the time London, being, for London and fo much of the County of M'uUuJex as lies within the Bills of Mortality, other Middiefex. than the Inns of Court and Chancery, and the High Sheriff of Surrey for the time being, for the Bo- Surrey, rough of Southwark, and all other Sheriffs of any other City or Town, being a County of it felt, for Southwark, fuch Cities and Towns refpectively, fhall be, and are hereby made Collectors of, and for the feveral Duties arifing within their feveral and refpective Limits ; For which end and purpofe, and in thofe places only, the Conftables, Tything-men, Headboroughs and other Officers, (hall deliver unto the Sheriffs of the Cities and places aforefaid, Duplicates of the fame Accompts of Hearths and Stoves, which the faid Conftables, Headboroughs, Tything-men and other Officers, are appointed by this Act to take from time to time, and to deliver to the Juftices of Peace to be Inrolled, as aforefaid : And the faid Sheriffs of the Cities and Places laft before-mentioned, are hereby enabled to levy the faid Duties, and required to give Acquittances without any Fees, as fully and amply to all intents and purpofes, as in this Act is appointed to be done by any other Collectors; And the faid Sheriffs fhall from time to time within forty days after the faid Duties ihall be payable by virtue of this Act, make payment of all the B b 2 Monies
