APPENDIX. iq 5 XVI. And be it Ordained and Enadfed by the Authority aforefaid, That all and every Printer and Offenders a- Prklters of Books, Founder and Founders or Letters for. Printing, and all and every other perfon and ^'t th b " .j^!' perfons working in or for the faid Trades, who from and after the Tenth day of June, in the year, nittal. One thoufand fix hundred fixty and two, ihall offend againft this prefent Adt, or any Article, Claufe or Thing herein contained, and (hall be thereof convicted by Verdidt, Confeffiort, or otherwife, (hall for the "firft Offence be difenabled from exercifing his refpedtive Trade for the fpace of three years, And for the fecond Offence fliall for ever thenceafter be difabled to ufe or exercife the Art or Myftery of Printing, or of Founding Letters for Printing, and (hall alfo have and receive fuch further punilhment by Fine, Imprifonment,- or other Corporal Punifhment, not extending to Life or Limb, as by the jus- tices of the Court of Kings Bench, or Juftices of Oyer and Terminer, or Juftices of Affize in their feveral Circuits, or Juftices of the Peace in their feveral Quarter-Seffions (hall be thought (it to he. inflicted ; The which faid Juftices of the Peace in their feveral Quarter-Seffions fliall have full power and authority to hear and determine all and every Offence and Offences that mall be committed a- gainft this Act, or againft any branch thereof, upon Indictment or Information by any perfon or per- ions to be taken before them in their Seffions of Peace refpedtively, and (hall yearly certifie into the Court of Exchequer, as in other like Cafes they are bound to do, the Fines by them impofed for any of the Offences aforefaid, and (hall and may alfo by virtue hereof award procefs and execution for the taking or punifhing fuch Offenders as in any other cafe they lawfully may do by any the Laws and Statutes of this Realm. XVII. And be it further enacted by the authority aforefaid, That every Printer fliall referve three printed Copies printed Copies of the beft and largeft Paper of every Book new printed, or reprinted by him with Addi- to be fent to his tions, and (hall before any publick. Vending of the faid Book bring them to the Mafter of the Company Majefties U- of Stationers, and deliver them to him, one whereof (hall be delivered to the Keeper jpf his Majefties two Univerfi- Library, and the other two to be fent to the Vice-Chancellors of the two Univerfities"? effectively, forties. the ufe of the Publick Libraries of the faid Univerfities. XVIII. Provided always, That nothing in this Adt contained, (hall be conftrued to extend to the Provifo for the prejudice or infringing of any the juft Rights and Priviledges of either of the two Univerfities of priviledges or" this Realm, touching and concerning the Licenfing or Printing of Books in either of the faid Univer- verges Um ~ fities. XIX. Provided always, That no Search (hall at any time be made in the Houfe or Houfes of any the peers Houfes, Peers of this Realm, or of any other perfon or perfons not being free of, or ufing any of the Trades in this Adt before mentioned, but by fpecial Warrant from the Kings Majefty, under his Sign-Manual, or under the hand of one or both of his Majefties Principal Secretaries of State, or for any other Books than fuch as are in printing, or (hail be printed after the Tenth of June, 1662 ; any thing in this Adt to the contrary thereof in any wife notwithftanding. XX. Provided alfo, That neither this Adt, nor any thing therein contained, (hall extend to prohibit p ro vifo for any Bsokfeller who hath ferved feven years, and is free of the Company of Stationers, London, from Bookfcikrs and Importing or Bringing into this Realm any Books ready bound not formerly prohibited, which have stationer, been printed ten years before the faid Importation-; any thing in this or any other Adt to the contrary on on ' notwithftanding. XXI. Provided alfo, and be it further enadted by the Authority aforefaid, That neither this Adt, nor perfons felling: any thing therein contained, (hall be conftrued to prohibit any perfon or perfons to fe'l Books or Papers, Books in Weii- who have fold Books and Papers within B'ejhninjlcr-Hall, the Palace of IVeJhmnfter, or in any Shop or mmiler - Ha,! - Shops within twenty yards of the great Gate of IFeJiminJler-Hall aforefaid, before the Twentieth day of ' November, One thoufand fix hundred (ixty and one ; but they and every of them may fell Books and Papers as they have or did before the faid Twentieth day of November, One thoufand fix hundred fixty one, within the faid Hall, Palace, and Twenty yards aforefaid, but not elfewhere ; any thing in this Act to the contrary in any wife notwithftanding. XXII. Provided alfo, That neither this Act, nor any thing therein contained, fliall extend to preju-^ Provifo for the judice the juft Rights and Priviledges granted by his Majefty, or any of his Royal Predeceffors, to any vifedgeTof P "" perfon or perfons, under his Majefties Great Seal, or otherwife, but that fuch perfon or perfons may ex- printing grant- ercife and ufe fuch Rights and Priviledges, as aforefaid, according to their refpedtive Grants ; any thing ed to any per. in this Adt to the contrary notwithftanding. Provided alio, That neither this Adt, nor any thing therein contained, (hall extend to pro- .' hibit John Streater Stationer, from Printing Books and Papers, but that he may (till follow the Art and John str^a'ter Myftery of Printing, as if this Aet had never been made; any thing therein to the contrary notwith- stationed Handing. XXIV. Provided alfo, That neither this Adt, nor any thing therein contained, (hall extend to reftrain p ro vifo for the the keeping and ufing of 3 Printing-prefs in the City of York, fo as all Books of Divinity there printed, city of York, be firft Licenfed by the Archbifhop of York for the time being, or fuch perfon or perfons whom he (hall appoint, and ail other Books whatfoever there printed, be (irft Licenfed by fuch perfbns respectively to whom the Licenfing thereof doth or (hall appertain by the Rules herein before-mentioned, and fo as no Bibles be there printed, nor any other Book, whereof the Original Copy is or (hall be be- longing to the Company of Stationers in London, or any Member thereof; and fo as the Arch- bifhop or Lord Mayor of York for the time being, do execute within the faid City (which they are hereby im powered to do) all the Powers and Rules in this Adt concerning Searches for unlicenfed Books, and impofe and levy the faid penalties in.the like cafes; any thing in this Adt to the contrary notwithftanding.
