He m. firstly 11 July 1761, at Lady Dairy's house, St. Anne's, Soho, Mary Anne, da. and coheir of Lt. Gen. Sir Thomas Dhury, Bart., of Overstone, co. Northampton, by Martha, da. of Sir John Tybeli., Bart. She d. s.p.m, (") "Robert, Ld. Marquis af Kormanby, sou to His Grace &c, born this day." Par. Reg. of Baptisms at St. Margarets. ( b ) See Col. ( c ) On his death, under his Father's will, liis bastard br., Charles Herbert (s. of his Father by Frances, " Mrs. Lambert ") sue. to a great part of the estates including Normanby, co. Lincoln, ne took the name of Sheffield, and was cr. a Baronet in 1755. ( a ) The patents at this period are in English, and the word " Buckiughams/we" is used instead of, (as formerly), " comitaltts de Buckingham." . (*) He was a. and h. of the well-known Sir John Mayn.'ud, who was first CommhsiiMer of the Great Seal at the age of 87 in 16S9-90. ( f ) He is supposed to have owed his peerage to the influence of his sister Henrietta " Mrs. Howard " (afterwards [1731] Countess of Sufiblk) said to have been Mistress to George II., when Electoral Prince. This lady d. 26 July 1767, aged 86.
