She d. 7 July 1698. He was bur. 25 Jan. 1708/9 at St. Paul's Covent Garden. Will dat. 25 July 1707, pr. 15 Feb. 1708/9. VI. 1709, 2. Henry (Herbert), Baron Herbert op Chirbury, to only s. and h., sue. to the peerage in Jan. 1703/9. He m. 12 Dec. 17.'58. 1709, Mary, sister of John, 1st Earl of Portsmouth, da. of John WALLor, of Farley Wallop, Hants, by Alice, 3d da. and coheir of William Borlask, of Great Marlow, BucIcb. He rf. s.p. by. his own hand (a ruined man) at his seat at Ribbesford, near Bewdley, April 1738, when the peerage became extinct. He wasiur. at Ribbesford. Will pr. 1738. His widow, who waa first Lady of the Bedchamber to Anne, Princess of Orange, d. 19 Oct. 1770 - Will pr. Oct. 1770. i.e., '• Herbert of Chirbury, co. William Herbert, s. and h. ap. of William, Earl of Pembroke, is said( :l ) to have been cr. v.p., Sep. 1466, BARON HERBERT OF DUNSTER(b) but there seems no good proof of such creation. He sue. his father, 27 July 1469 as Earl ok Pembroke. See that dignity, cr. 1468, under the 2d Earl. HERBERT OF GOWER. i.e., "Herbert of Raolanp, Chepstow and Gower," Barony (.Somerset), supposed to have been cr, 1506. See under " Herbert " Barony, cr. Sidney Herbert, 2d s. of George T 18fil Augustus, 11th Earl of Pembroke, being his 1st s. by his second wife, Catherine, da. of Simon, Count Woronzoff, of Russia, b. 16 Sep. 1810, at Richmond, co. Surrey, ed. at Harrow school, and at Oriel Coll., Oxf ird ; mat. 17 May 1S28 ; B.A. and Honorary 4th class, 1831 ; M.P. for South Wilts (in 8 Paris.) 1832-61 ; Joint Sec. to the Board of Control, Jan. to April 1835 ; Be* t<> the Admiralty, 1841-45 ; P.O., 1845 ; Sec. at war, 1845-46, with a seat in the Cabinet, becoming (together with Peel) a free trader. He remained out of office for 6 years, but was (in the Aberdeen Ministry), Sec. at war, 1852-55 ; Home Sec. S to 28 Feb. 1855 ; Colonial Sec., March to May 1855. In 1856, he took a prominent lead in the reform of the Army and in public affairs, generally, and was ( a ) " William of Worcester " as quoted in Doyle's " Official Baronage," vol. ii, p. 231, sub " Huntingdon."
