M.P. for Ardfert ; sue. his father in the Barony of Brandon (cr. 16 Sep. 1758) 20 Jan. 1762, taking his seat ou the 23d ; Custos Rot. of co. Kerry, 1770 ; was cr. 30 Nov. 1771, VISCOUNT CROSBIE OF ARDFERT, co. Kerry [I.], taking his seat 3d Dec. following, and was a: 22 July 1776 EARL OF GLANDORE, co. Cork [I.]. P.C. [I.] He m firstly, Nov. 1745, 'Iheodosia, da. of Johu (Bligh), 1st Earl ok DiENLEY [I.] by Theodosia, suo jure Baroness Clikton ok Lekjhton Bhomswold. She d. 20 Slay 1777, aged 54. He m. secondly, 1 Nov. 1777, Jane, widow of Johu Ward, da. of Edward VISBT. He d. 11 April 1781 in Dirblin in his 66th year. His widow d. Sep. 1787, II. 1781, 2. Joiix (Crosbie), Earl of Glaxoore, Viscount to Crosbie ok Ardkert, and Baron Brandon [I.]. 2d but only surv. s. 1 81 5. and h., by first wife ; b. 25 May 1753; ed. atTrin. Coll., Dublin ; B.A., 1771; M.A. 1772; styled Viscount Crosbie, 1776-81; M.l'. for Athboy, 1775-76 ; for Ardfert 1776-S1 ; sue. to the peerage [I.J 11 April 1781, and took his seat in House of Lords [L] 16 April 17S2 ; Gov. of co. Kerry, 1785 ; P.C. [I.] 1735; Bur. Peer TI.J 1801-15, being one of those first elected ; F.R.S., &e. He m. 26 Nov. 1777, at the house of her father, St. James', Westni., Diana, 1st da. of George (Sackville-Germain), 1st Viscount Sackville ok Drayton, by Diana, da. and coheir of John Sajibeoke. She, who was b. 8 July 1756, d. 29 Aug. 181 4, aged 58. He s.p., 23 Oct. 1815, at Ardfert Abbey, co. Kerry, when the Earldom of Clandorc and Viscountcy of Crosbie of Ardfert became extinct, but the Barony of Brandon passed t«  his cousin and heir male, on whose death, s.p.m., 3 May 1832,' it also became extinct. Ayr, s. and b. of I 1703 John B.( a ) of the same, by his first wife, Marion, da. of Sir Walter Stewart ; sue. his father, 7 Oct. 1685 ; M.P. for co. Bute, 16S9-99 ; P.O., 1697; was cr. 31 Jan. 1698/9, LORD BOYLE OF KELBURN, STEWARTOUN, CUMBRA, LARGS AND DALRY [S.J, with rem. to his heirs male whatsoever; took the oaths and his seat in Pari. [S.J, 21 May 1700 ; Treasurer- depute [S.J, 2 Jan. 1702/3, and was cr. 12 April 1703, EARL OF GLASGOW, VISCOUNT OF KELBURN, LORD BOYLE OF STEWARTOUN, CUMBRAES, FINNICK, LARGS AND DALRY [S.J, with a like remainder. He steadily supported the protestant succession ;( b ) was a Commissioner for the L T nion as also, (") This John was s. and h. of David Boyle, of Halkshill, co. Ayr, by (his cousiu), Grizel, da. and h. of John Boyle, of Kelburne. ( b ) In Macky's " Characters," he is thus spoken of when " about 10 " [1705 ?] " A gentleman brought to the Court by the Duke of Queeusberry and preferred from a private gentleman to be Viscount Boyle ; on the Queen's accession was made Lord Treasurer Deputy and cr. Earl of Glasgow; is a gentleman of application and capacity ; u fat, fair man."
