Of these, two d. s.p. but the survivor, Anne, )«. Alexander Macneill, of Ballycastle, co. Antrim, and d. 1798, leaving issue. Her grandson and heir, Capt. Thomas Macneill (A. 1780) was a claimant of the title us the heir general of his great grandfather, w hose right thereto was solely as heir male (j» preference to the heir general) of Christopher, Huron Slane, who d. 170S. ( b ) It seems not unlikely that an heir male, descended from the first Baron, may exist. The claim of James Ellis Fleming, Q.C, as such, was from John Fleming-, brother of Th as and William, Barons Slane, and yr. s. of Christopher, Baron Slane, who ii, 1625. This John was alleged to be father of Doininick Fleming, of Tuam, co. Gahvay, merchant {d. 1738), who was great-grandfather of the claimant. But it can be shewn (according to Mr. Bryan's statement in his claim) that the said John (lied without issue ; as also that the father of the said Dominick was Tkomai Fleming, who rf. 1689, and who was son, grandson and great-grandson of a line of merchants established at Drogheda.
