( b ) This Robert, according to Conrthope, was " next br. of John IV, 4th Baron Le Strange ot Knoekyn " [i.e., the 4th Baron by tenure, the father of the 1st Baron by writ], hut, he adds, "some authorities make Fulk le Strange to be brother and heir of John le Strange, son of Robert, sou of Hamou le Strange, younger brother of John III. 3rd Baron [i.e., the 3rd Baron by tenure], (") See " Nicolas, pp. 761-800, for a good account of that letter. ( d ) This Mary is usually said to have been da. of the Earl of Arundel by his second wife, Eleanor, which lady he m, 5 Feb. 1344/5, having divorced the other 4 Dec. 1341. As the said Mary was herself a mother in 1354 her birth must have been tnoie than ten years before that date.
