( b ) He d. in Lambeth Road, within the "Rules" of the King's Bench prison 10 Jan. 1810, where, it is said, he had been detained 22 years at the instance of the Countess and her representatives. By her he had one (his only legitimate) son. ( c ) The object was to legitimatize, according to the Scotch law, their bastard son, John Bowes. This John, accordingly, claimed his father's peerages [S. ami U.K.), but the case was decided against him, 29 June 1821, on the ground of his parents not having a Scotch domicile.
