He was cr. v.p. 3 March 1691, BARON TAKA. EAUL OF BANGOK, and DUKE OF LE1NSTEK[I.], being naturalised in England. 25 April 1691 ; Com. in Chief [E. and S.], 1691. He sue. to the English peerage as Dlkk of SchouhkRU, &c, 17 Oct. 1693, under the spec rem. in the creation of that dignity, taking his seat. 7 Nov. following; P.C. 1695 ; Lieut -Gen. of the forces 1695 1702 ; el. .md inv. She, who was b. 19 Nov. 1659, d. at Kensingun, 2S June and was bur. 11 July 1696, in Westm. Abbey. ( c ) He rf. s.p.m.s.( d ) at Hillingdon, co. Abhcj) Registers" as to her christian name being Caroline and not Charlotte, which names at that period were, unquestionably, interchangeable. G. W. Watson.] They are said to have been married in 1658. by a Lutheran Clergyman, he having re- pudiated his wife, Caroline. She, whom he married 12 Feb. 1650, survived this lady, and d. 16 March 16S6, aged 59. (•) Mention is made somewhere [Qy. in a French biographical diet, in the Bodleian library ?] of " Louise Barbe de Rizzi, epouse pretendu de Meinhart, C'jrote de Schonberg." (<') The English honours conferred on his father would have devolved on his eldest br., Fiederic (see p. 81, note " f "), if alive or on his issue male if any, but he who was alive in Oct. 1693 U. at Wesel, apparently s.p.rr. before 1719. The date of his death is given in a printed German pedigree (belonging to Arthur Schomberg above- named) as " 5 Pec. 1700," but Courthope states that he was " living at ' Jtiwjau in Gressenlieim ' in Germany (probably Geissenheim in the Klieingau) in 1715." The first Duke had apparently but one uncle whose da. and h. he married (as in the text) but be had a great uncle, Frederic de Schonberg, whose only son, Simon Rudolf (some time Ambassador for the Emperor at Madrid) had two sons, of whom (1) Otho Frederic, General of Cavalry and Artillery for the Emperor, was slain at the battle of Leijisic 7 Sep. 1631 ; and (2) John Charles, Councillor to the Emperor Ferdinand II., who was father of Emanuel Maximilian William, Count of Schonberg, Gent, of the Bed- chamber to the Emperor, who m. but ri. s.p. 1682. The will of a "Frederick Christian, Count of Schomburgh," who ci. abroad, was pr. Aug. 1781.
