Frederik Christiaan Reinh art (van Reede), Earl OF Athlone, &c., [1.], s. and h., b. 31 Jan. 1743, at the Hague. He was a member of the Nobles in the provmce of Utrecht, was Ranger of the said province, and was Chief Magistrate for that city in 1790. He was cr., 25 Sep. 1790, Count of the Holy Roman Empire, as Count VAN Reede. In 1 795, the French having occupied Holland, he accompanied the Stadtholder to England, and took his seat in the House of Lords [I.] 10 Mar. 1795, C) his signed pedigree being 'delivered in ' to the Lords by Ulster King of Arms at the same time. (^) On i Aug. 1 800 he obtained an annuity from that House as a poor Peer. He m.y 29 Dec. 1765, at the Hague, his cousin, Anna Elisabeth Christina, da. of Jan C) Her eldest sister, Maria, m. B'log. say 17 19, and Burke 1729, but 1720 is the date given in the ped. signed by the 5th Earl in 1795- V.G. (') Lodge, vol ii, p. 157, where, how^ever, this statement is appHed to Godert, Earl ot A., a supposed yr. br. of the 3rd Earl, who does not appear in fact to have had any existence. V.G. C*) The decision of the House enabling him so to do seems questionable, as it appears that he was an alien. The Crown, however, would not have been bound by such decision.
