In 1704 Sir Humphrey resigned liis title of baro- net into the sovereign's hands, in favour of himself and the heirs male of his body, whom failing, to the said James Grant, his son-in-l.w, and the heirs male of his body (a-s therein named in fee), whom faiUng to the other heirs of entail of the saiil Sir Humphrey whomsoever, but with this exjjress limita- tion, that he or his heirs so succeeding to that estate and title shall be obliged to bear the name and arms of Colquhoun, of Luss. It was also s]x;ciaUy provided that the estates of Grant and Luss should not be conjoined. A new patent, with the precedency of the former patent of 1G25, was then conferred (E. SEAFlELD) upon Sir Humphrey. On the death of his elder brother. Briga<lier-Gen. Alexander Grant, in 1719 aforesaid, he resumed his paternal surname, and became SIR Ja3IES Gr.vxt of Gr.vnt, retaining the baronetcy of Colquhoun, of Luss, but the estate of Luss went to his 2nd surviv-ing son (Sir James), according to the settlement in the entail of that estate.
