(Speed Limits) (Amendment) Regulations 1967(a)[1] and then complying with the provisions thereof relating thereto, is situated on any road in conformity with the provisions of the Traffic Signs (Speed Limits) Directions 1962(b)[2], or those Directions as modified by the Special Direction of 1st December 1965(c)[3] (which modified the general directions contained in the said Instrument of 1962 in relation to traffic signs indicating a maximum speed limit of 50 miles per hour on certain roads);

or

(b) a traffic sign prescribed by Regulation 3 of the Traffic Signs (Motorways Speed Limits) Regulations 1965(d)[4] and then complying with the provisions thereof relating thereto, is situated on any road,

the sign shall, so long as it continues to comply with and conform to such of the said provisions as relate thereto as though the same had not been revoked, be treated as prescribed by the Regulations contained in Part II of this Instrument, and placed in conformity with the provisions of the Directions contained in Part III of this Instrument, until the 1st January 1978, except that it shall not be treated after 31st December 1970 as so prescribed unless the provisions of Regulation 4 of the Regulations contained in Part II of this Instrument (except paragraph (4) thereof) are complied with in relation to it and to the other signs referred to in that Regulation, or as so placed unless it complies with the provisions of paragraph 9 of the Directions contained in Part III of this Instrument.

For the purposes of Regulation 4 of the Regulations contained in Part II of this Instrument in its application to a sign prescribed by the said Regulations of 1962 or by Regulation 3 of the said Regulations of 1965, the signs shown in diagrams 1 and 2 in the Schedule to the said Regulations of 1962, and the signs described in sub-paragraphs (a), (b) and (c) of paragraph (3) of Regulation 3 of the said Regulations of 1965 shall be treated as being signs of sizes 1 or 2 of the sizes shown in the appropriate numbered diagram set out in the Schedule to the Regulations contained in Part II of this Instrument, and the other signs prescribed by the said Regulations of 1962 and 1965 shall be treated as being signs of sizes 3 or 4 of the sizes shown in such diagrams.

(2) Where, immediately before the coming into operation of this Instrument a traffic sign shown in any diagram in the Schedule to the Traffic Signs (Speed Limits) Regulations 1967(e)[5] and then complying with the provisions thereof relating thereto, is situated on any road in conformity with the provisions of the Traffic Signs (Speed Limits) General Directions 1967(f)[6], the sign shall, so long as it continues to comply with and conform to such of the said provisions as relate thereto as though the same had not been revoked, be treated as prescribed by the Regulations contained in Part II of this Instrument and placed in conformity with the provisions of the Directions contained in Part III of this instrument.

(3) In their application to a trunk road, paragraphs (1) and (2) of this Regulation shall have effect as though any reference to a sign being situated or placed in conformity with any Directions, and any requirement for a sign to comply with any Directions, were omitted.
