(b) in the signs shown in diagrams 502, 503, 523.1, 524.1, 530, 532.1, 534.1 to 535.1, 556.4, 626.1, 623.1 to 629.2, 712.1, 719.3A and 729.2 the numerals shall be varied to accord with the circumstances except that no fractions of a number shall he used;

(c) in the signs shown in diagrams 527, 556.4, 571, 715, 724, 724.2, 723.1 in 729, 730 to 733, 838.2, 911, 915 and 916, the numerals shall be varied in accord with the circumstances, distances being expressed in miles to the nearest mile except that in the case of any or the signs so shown other than a sign shown in diagram 715, 724.2, 732.2 or 911 the fractions ¾, ½ and ¼ may be used for distances or less than 3 miles;

(d) the sign shown in diagram 572 the numerals shall be varied to accord with the circumstances, distances being expressed in yards in the nearest 50 yards;

(e) in the signs shown in diagrams 534.2, 547.3, 556.4, 569.2, 570, 573, 734.8, 746.2, to 753.1, 759, 818.1, 818.2, and 841 to 842.4, the numeral indicating distance shall be varied to accord with the circumstances, distance of less than ½ mile being expressed in yards to the nearest 50 yards, distances or ½ mile or more but less than 3 miles being expressed in miles so long an no fractions other than ¾, ½ or ¼ are used, and distances of 3 miles or more being expressed in miles to the nearest mile;

(f) in the sign shown in any diagram in schedule 1, any numerals which indicate route numbers shall be so varied as to indicate the route number for the time being appropriate to the route to which the indication refers and when a route number has been superseded by a new route number any such numerals indicating the old route number may be retained in the said sign so long as those numerals so indicating are cancelled by a red bar to indicate that that route number has been superseded;

(g) in the signs shown in diagrams 618, 638 to 641, 646, 660.2, 662, 801.5, 805, 806.1, 806.3 and 807 the legend shall be varied, so far as respects any reference in a period or time, time or day or day of the week and may be supplemented by a reference to days of the month or months of the year, so as to accord with the prohibition or restriction imposed in relation to vehicular traffic;

(h) in the signs shown in diagrams 515, 534.2, 553, 555.4, 567.1, 557.2, 569, 573, 580, 606 (through either 90° or 180° above horizontal), 639, 640, 640.2A, 644, 703.1, 703.2, 705, 714, 718.1, 718.2, 720, 721.1, 723, 724.1, 727, 727.2, 728.1, 730, 732.1, 733.1, 734.2, 734.4, 734.9, 734.10, 741.1, 742.2, 742.4, 754. 755, 756, 757, 810, 842.2, 844, 855, 910.1 and 912, the direction of any arrow or chevron shown therein shall be varied to accord with the circumstances, so however that no chevron shown in diagrams 515 or 569 and no arrow shown in diagram 553, 639, 640, 640.2A, 644, 810, 842.2, 855 or 912 shall point otherwise than horizontally either to the left or to the right, and so that from the signs shown in diagram 639, 640, 757 and 842.2, the arrows may be omitted;

(i) (in any or the signs shown in diagrams 537, 541, 551, 552, 755, 805, 818.2, 841 and 842.4, an arrow pointing in the appropriate direction horizontally left or right may be included;

(j) (in the signs shown in diagrams 713, 714, 724.1, 729 to 729.2 and 741 an indication or distance may be expressed to the nearest mile, in the signs shown in diagrams 734.1 to 734.4, 734.6, 736, 736.1, 739 to 739.2 and 756 such an indication as aforesaid may be expressed to the nearest ¼ mile for a distance greater than 3 miles, to the nearest ¼ mile for a distance less than 3 miles but greater than ½ mile, and to the nearest 50 yards
