of Animals Act, 1950[1], as extended by the Rabies Act, 1974[2], or outside but near the boundaries of such a place or area, and shall not be retained there after that place or area or pain thereof ceases to he or to he in such an infected place or area or pan thereof.

17. The signs shown in diagrams 564. 564.1, 563.5 to 569.1. 754 to 756.1 and the signs shown in diagrams 858 to 858.2 when those last-mentioned signs are displayed on the yellow but not on the blue permitted backgrounds may be placed on or near a road only in connection with the execution or works thereon, or a temporary obstruction thereon, and any such sign so placed and any other sign shown in a diagram in schedule 1 to the Regulations so placed as aforesaid shall not be retained on or near the road after the completion of the works or the removal or the obstruction, as the case may be, unless.

(i) it is a sign of the type shown in diagram 565.1 and if so, that sign may be retained on or near it road after the completion of the works for so long as the highway authority concerned sees fit, or

(ii) it is a sign or the type shown in diagram 565.2 bearing the words "Give way markings erased", or "stop markings erased" and if so, that sign shall have been removed as soon as the road markings have been replaced and in any event not later than 28 days from the date of completion of the works.

18.(1) Signs shown in diagrams 603 and 604 may be used only where one-way working is necessary owing to a temporary closure to vehicular traffic of a width of the carriageway or a road.

(2) The signs shown in diagrams 615 and 811 shall not be used unless used in conjunction with one another and shall not be used at all in conjunction with the signs shown in diagrams 603 or 604.

(3) The signs shown in diagrams on and 635 may be used only by a constable in uniform or a person acting under the instructions or authority or the chief officer of police for the police area in which the signs are to be placed.

19. The sign shown in diagram 569.2 or 569.3 may be placed on or near a road only in connection with works involving an alteration in the layout or the carriageway or involving the removal or or change in the road markings or other traffic signs placed on or near a road at cross roads or other junctions (including in the case of the sign shown in the diagram 569.3 an automatic railway level crossing within the meaning of Regulation 25(1) or the Regulations), and shall be retained for not more than 3 months from the date of the completion of those works.

20. Signs shown in diagrams 810, 830.1, 831 and 832 (except when varied to contain the words "weight check") may be used only in connection with a traffic census the taking or which on a road has been approved by the highway authority {or that road by the chief officer or police of the police area in which the road is situate, and by or on behalf or the secretary of State.

21. The signs shown in diagrams 833 to 836 may be used only to regulate the movement of vehicular traffic into and out of premises with more than one access to a road.
