C . 1a– 5 (c)) or section 5(b) of the N ational Trails System A ct (16 U.S.C. 1 24 4(b)), as appropriate. (c) RE PO RT.—Not later than 3 years after the date on which funds are made available to carry out this section, the Secretary shall submit to the Committee on Natural Resources of the H ouse of Representatives and the Committee on E nergy and Natural Resources of the Senate a report containing— (1) the results of the study conducted under subsection (a)
and (2) any recommendations of the Secretary with respect to the route. SEC.7210 .C OLDWAR S IT EST H E M EST U D Y . (a) D E F INITIONS.— (1) AD V ISORY C OMMITTEE.—The term ‘ ‘Advisory Committee ’ ’ means the Cold W ar Advisory Committee established under subsection (c). (2) SECRET A RY.—The term ‘‘Secretary’’ means the Secretary of the I nterior. (3) T H EME STUDY.—The term ‘‘theme study’’ means the national historic landmar k theme study conducted under sub- section (b)(1). (b) CO L D WAR THEME STUDY.— (1) IN G ENERAL.—The Secretary shall conduct a national historic landmark theme study to identify sites and resources in the United States that are significant to the Cold War. (2) RESOURCES.—In conducting the theme study, the Sec- retary shall consider— (A) the inventory of sites and resources associated with the Cold War completed by the Secretary of Defense under section 812 0 (b)(9) of the Department of Defense Appropria- tions Act, 1991 (Public Law 101–511; 104 Stat. 1906); and ( B ) historical studies and research of Cold War sites and resources, including— (i) intercontinental ballistic missiles; (ii) flight training centers; (iii) manufacturing facilities; (iv) communications and command centers (such as Cheyenne M ountain, Colorado); (v) defensive radar networks (such as the Distant Early Warning Line); (vi) nuclear weapons test sites (such as the Nevada test site); and (vii) strategic and tactical aircraft. (3) CONTENTS.—The theme study shall include— (A) recommendations for commemorating and inter- preting sites and resources identified by the theme study, including— (i) sites for which studies for potential inclusion in the National Park System should be authorized; (ii) sites for which new national historic landmarks should be nominated; and (iii) other appropriate designations; 16USC 1 a–5note.
