Approved, February 3, 1897. , [N o. 9.] Joint Resolution Authorizing the Secretary of War to grant permits to F°bm°·¤’Y @1897- the executive committee on inaugural ceremonies for use of reservations or public W spaces in city of Washington on the occasion of the inauguration of the President-elect on March fourth, eighteen hundred and ninety-seven, and so forth. Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of War is hereby u,£*°"g“¤* °°*°m** authorized to grant permits to the executive committee on inaugural nimrrqmvmem, ceremonies for the use of any reservations or other public spaces in the °'”·· *’°"‘“’“°“· city of Washington on the occasion of the inauguration of the Presidentelect on the fourth day of March, eighteen hundred and ninety-seven, which, in his opinion, will inilict no serious or permanent injuries upon such reservations or public spaces or statuary thereon; and the Commissioners of the District of Columbia may designate for such and other purposes on the occasion aforesaid such streets, avenues, and sidewalks in said city of Washington as they may deem proper and necessary: Provided, however, That all stands or platforms that may be erected on havnt. the public spaces aforesaid shall be under the supervision of the said S”’“’d“‘ executive committee and in accordance with plans and designs to be approved by the Architect of the Capitol, the Commissioner of Public Buildings and Grounds, and the building inspector of the District of Columbia. Sec. 2. That the Commissioners of the District of Columbia are hereby ,_g§'§?,*}§f§}§r _,‘{QL§T§(; authorized to permit the committee on illumination of the citizens’ execu- ¤1u¤¤i¤¤¤i¤¤· tive committee for the inaugural ceremonies March, eighteen hundred and ninety-seven, to stretch suitable overhead conductors, with sufficient supports, wherever necessary, and in the nearest practicable connection with the present supply of light, for the purpose of effecting the said _ illumination: Prorided, That the said conductors shall not be used for f{;',Q§:y_ the conveying of electrical currents after March sixth, eighteen hundred and ninety-seven, and shall, with their supports, be fully and entirely removed from the streets and avenues of the said city of Washiiigton on or before March fifteenth, eighteen hundred and ninety-seven: Pro- _ _ vided jlirther, That the stretching and removing of the said wires shall S“¥’°""”‘°“· be under the supervision of the Commissioners of the District of Columbia, who shall see that the provisions of this resolution are enforced, that all needful precautions are taken for the protection of the public, and that the pavement of any street, avenue, or alley disturbed is replaced in as good condition as before entering upon the work herein authorized: Provided further, That no expense or damage on account E‘P°“°°· of or due to the stretching, operation, or removing of the said temporary overhead conductors shall be incurred by the United States or the District of Columbia: Provided further, That for the purposes of this ;*&¢him>({·¤l<=¤¤·i¤i*¤ Act the construction of additional underground conduits is specifically Pr` " prohibited. _ _ Sec. 3.
