Fo r sala ries o f cler ks of United State s circu it cou rts of appea ls and Unite d States district courts, t heir depu ties, and other as sistants, travel expenses pursuant to the subsistence expense Act of 1926 , and other e xpense s of c onduct ing th eir re spectiv e offi ces, i n acco rdance with the provisions of the Act approve February 26, 1919, and the Act approved June 1, 1922, making appropriations for the Depart- ments of State and Justice and for the judiciary for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1923, $1,820,000 . For fees of United States commissioners and other committing magistrates acting under section 1014, Revised Statutes of the United States, $550,000 . For mileage and per diems of jurors, $1,875,000 . For mileage and per diems of witnesses and for per diems in lieu of subsistence ; and for payment of the actual expenses of witnesses, as provided by section 850, Revised Statutes of the United States, including the expenses, mileage, and per diems of witnesses on behalf of the Government before the United Stat es Customs Court, such payments to be made on the certification of the attorney for the United States and t o be c onclus ive as provi ded in secion 846, Revise d Stat - utes of the United States, $1,725,000 : Provided, That not to exceed $10,000 of this amount shall be available for such compensation and expens es of witnes ses or infor mants as may be aut horize d or a pprove d by the Attor ney Ge neral, which appro val sha ll be conclu sive . Fo r rent of rooms fo r the Uni ted State s courts and judi cial offi cers, $76,000 . For bailiffs and criers, not exceeding three bailiffs and one crier in each court, except in the southern district of New York and the north- ern di str ict of Il lino is ; expens es of cir cuit and district judges o f the United States and the judges of the district courts of the United States in Al aska, Porto Rico, and Ha waii, a s prov ided b y sect ion 259 of the Act entitled "An Act to codify, revise, and amend the laws relating to the judiciary," approved March 3, 1911 ; meals and lodging for jurors in United States cases, and of bailiffs in attendance upon the same, when ordered by the court, and meals and lodging for jurors in Alaska, as provided by section 193, Title II, of the Act of June 6, 1900 ; and compensation for jury commissioners, $5 per day, not ex- ceeding three days for any one term of court, $445,000 : Provided, That no per diem shall be paid to a ny baili ff or cri er unless the cour t is actually in session and the judge present and presiding or present in chambers . For such miscellaneous expenses as may be authorized or approved by the Attorney General, for the United States courts and their officers2 including experts at such rates of compensation as may be authorized or approved by the Attorney General, including also so much as may be necessary in the discretion of the Attorney General for such expenses in the District of Alaska and in courts other than Federal courts, and including traveling expenses pursuant to the sub- sistence expense Act of 1926, $838,000 . For supplies, including the exchange of typewriting and adding machines, for the United States courts and judicial officers, including firear ms and ammun ition theref or, to be exp ended under the di rectio n of the Attorney General, $71,000 . Fo r the purcha se of law bo oks, i ncludi ng the exchan ge the reof, for United States judges, district attorneys, and other judicial officers, including the libraries of the nine United States circuit courts of appeals, for the purchase of the Federal Reporter and continuations thereto as issued, to be expended under the direction of the Attorney General, $6 5,000 : Pr ovid ed, That such books shall in all cases be transmitted to their successors in office ; all books purchased there- Commissioners .
