Ca. 348 . 1930. as are hereinafter noted, and their clerks, weighmasters, and order- l ies ; chaplains, religious instruction, and entertainment for the members of the home, printers, bookbinders, librarians, musicians, telegraph and telephone operators, guards, janitors, watchmen, fire company, and property and materials purchased for their use, i ncludi ng re pairs ; art icles of am useme nt, l ibrary book s, mag azine s, papers, pictures, musical instruments, and repairs not done by the home ; stationery, advertising, legal advice, payments due heirs of deceased members : Provided, That all receipts on account of the effects of deceased members during the fiscal year shall also be available for such payments ; and for such other expenditures as can not properly be included under other heads of expenditures, $107,500 ; Subsistence : For pay of commissary sergeants, commissary clerks, porters, laborers, bakers, cooks, dishwashers, waiters, and others employed in the subsistence department ; fo od s upp lies pu rcha sed for the subsistence of the members of the home and civilian employees regularly employed and residing at the branch, freight, preparation, and serving ; aprons, caps, and jackets for kitchen and dining-room employees ; tobacco ; dining-room and kitchen furniture and utensils ; bakers' and butchers' tools and appliances, and their repair not done by the home, $560,000 ; Household : For furniture for officers' quarters ; bedsteads, bed- ding, bedding material, and all other articles, including repairs, required in the quarters of the members an d of civilian employees permanently employed and residing at the branch ; fuel ; water ; engineers and firemen, b athhouse keepers, janitors, laundry em ployee s, an d for all l abor, mater ials, and applia nces requi red fo r household use, and repairs, if not repaired by the home, $228,000 ; Hospital : For pay of medical officers and assistant surgeons, matrons, druggist, hospital clerks and stewards, ward masters, nurses, cooks, waiters, readers, drivers, funeral escort, janitors, and for such other services as may be necessary for the care of the sick ; b ur ia l o f th e d ea d ; surgical instruments and applianc es, medical books, medicine, liquors, fruits, and other necessaries for the sick not purchased under subsistence ; beds teads, bedd ing, a nd al l oth er special articles necessary for the wards ; hospital furniture, includ- ing special articles and appliances for hospital kitchen and dining r o o m ; carr iage, hears e, stretcher s, coffins ; and for a ll repairs to hospital furniture and appliances not done by the home, $477,000 ; Transportation : For trans porta tion of me mbers of t he ho me, $1, 000 ; Repairs : For pay of chief engineer, builders, blacksmiths, car- pent ers, painte rs, gas fitt ers, electr ical worker s, plumbers , tinsmiths , stea m fitters, stone and br ick masons, and labore rs, and for all appli- ances and materials used under this head ; and repairs of roads and other improvements of a permanent character $103,000 : P rovided, That no part of the appropriation for repairs for any of the branch homes shall be used for the construction of any new building
