BUREAU OF INDIAN AFFAIRS SALA RIES GENERAL EXPENSES Fo r tran sporta tion a nd inc identa l expe nses of offic ers an d cler ks of the Bureau of Indian Affairs when traveling on official duty ; for teleg raph and t elep hone toll mess ages on bu sine ss pe rtain ing to the Indian Service sent and received by the Bureau of Indian Affairs at Washington, and for other nec essary expenses of the Indian Service for which no other appropriation is available, $18 .500 . For advertising, inspection, storage, and all other expenses inci- dent to the purchase of goods and supplies for the Indian Service and for payment of railroad, pipe line, and other transportation costs of such goods and supplies, $643,900 : Provided, That no part of this appropriation shall be used in payment for any services except bill therefor is rendered within one year from the time the service is performed . For salaries, traveling and incidental expenses of field representa- tives of the Commissioner of Indian Affairs, $12,080 . For pay of judges of Indian courts where tribal relations now exist, at rates to be fixed by the Commissioner of Indian Affairs, $13,500 . For pay a nd exp enses of Ind ian po lice, includi ng chi efs of polic e at not to exceed $70 per month each and privates at not to exceed $50 per month each, to be employed in maintaining order, and for purchase of equipment and supplies, $105,650. For the suppression of the traffic in intoxicating liquors and deleter ious d rugs, includ ing pe yote, among I ndians , $47, 200 . For lease, purchase, repair, and improvement of agency build- ings, excl usive of hospi tal b uild ings, incl uding the purc hase of neces sary lands and the insta llat ion, repai r, an d im prove ment of heati ng, l ighti ng, power , and sew erage and water sys tems in co n- nection therewith, $144,110 . Vehicles, Indian Service : Not to exceed $275,000 of applicable appropriations made herein for the Bureau of Indian Affairs shall be available for the maintenance, repair, and operation of motor- propelled and horse-drawn passenger-carrying vehicles for the use of empl oyees in the India n fiel d serv ice, in cludin g the transp orta- tion of Indian school pupils : Provided, That not to exceed $150,000 may be used for the purchase and exchange of motor-propelled passenger-carrying vehicles, and that such vehicles shall be used only for official service, including the transportation of Indian school pupils .
