St ateme nt of Gov- ernment meters . 75TH CONGRESS, 1sT SESSION-CH . 570-AUGUST 9, 1937 Roads and Trails, National Park Service : For the construction, reconstruction, and improvement of roads and trails, inclusive of necessary brid ges, in the natio nal parks, monume nts, and other are as admini stered by the Nation al Park Servic e, incl uding the Bou lder Dam Recreational Area, and other areas authorized to be established as national parks and monuments, and national park and monument approach roads authorized by the Act of January 31, 1931 (U . S . C ., title 16, sees . 8a and 8b), as amended, including the roads from Glacie r Park Station throug h the B lackfee t Indi an Rese rvation to various points in the boundary line of the Glacier National Park and the internat ional boundary, $ 4,500,000, to be immediately avail- able and to remain available until expended : Provided, That not to exceed $60,00 0 of th e amoun t herei n appro priate d may b e expen ded for personal services in the District of Columbia during the fiscal year 1938 . Blue Ridge and Natchez Trace Parkways : For continuing the construction and maintenance, under the provisions of section 5 of the Act of June 16, 1936 (49 Stat ., pp. 1519-1522), of the Blue Ridge and Natchez Trace Parkways, to be immediately available and remain available until expended, $6,000,000, of which amount not to exceed $40,000 shall be available for personal services in the District of Columbia : Provided, That $1,500,000 and any other sums received from other sources for said Natchez Trace Parkway shall be allotted and ex pended ratably betwee n the S tates o f Miss issippi , Alaba ma, and Tennessee according to mileage of said Parkway in each respec- tive State . Historic sites and buildings : For carrying out the provisions of the Act entitled "An Act to provi de for the preser vation of historic American sites, buildings, objects, and antiquities of national signifi- cance, and for other purposes", approved August 21, 1935 (49 Stat ., p. 666), $24,000 . Investigation and purchase of water rights : For the investigation and establishmen t of water rights , including the p urchase thereof or of lands or interests in lands or rights-of-way for use and protection of water rights necessary or beneficial in connection with the admin- istration and public use of the national parks and monuments, and includ ing not to exc eed $50 0 for t he main tenanc e, oper ation, and repair of one passenger-carrying vehicle, $25,000 . Salaries an d general expenses , public building s and grounds in t he Distri ct of C olumbia : For a dministration, pr otection, maintena nce, and improvement of public buildings, monuments, memorials, and grounds in the District of Columbia under the jurisdiction of the Nation al Park Servic e, incl uding t he Nati onal A rchives Buildi ng ; per-di em empl oyees a t rates of pay approv ed by the Dir ector, not exceeding current rates for similar services in the District of Colum- bia ; rent of buildings ; demolition of buildings ; expenses incident to moving various executive departments and establishments in connec- tion with the assignment, allocation, transfer, and survey of building space ; traveling expenses and carfare ; leather and rubber articles and gas masks for the protection of public property and employees ; arms and ammunition for the guard force ; not exceeding $13,000 for un iforms for emp loyees ; and the purc hase, maintenance , repair, exchange, storage, and operation of four motor-propelled passenger- carrying vehicles ; $7,137,280, of which amount not to exceed $5,036,980 shall be available for personal services in the District of Columb ia and not to exceed $500,00 0 shall be av ailable for ma jor repairs and improvements to public buildings, monuments, memo- rials, and grounds in the District of Columbia : Provided, That the Superi ntenden t of Me ters of the De partmen t of t he Inte rior sh all
