58 STAT.] 78TH CONG., 2D SESS. -CHS. 241, 248, 249-JUNE 9, 13, 1944 [CHAPTER 241] AN ACT For the relief of Helene Murphy. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Treasury is authorized and directed to pay, out of any money in the Treasury not otherwise appropriated, to Helene Murphy, of Sioux City, Iowa, the sum of $133.25, in full satisfaction of her claim against the United States for compensation for car fare paid by her in traveling between stations in the course of her employment as an employee of the United States post office at Sioux City, Iowa, during the period between July 1, 1923, and June 30, 1930: Provided, That no part of the amount appropriated in this Act in excess of 10 per centum thereof shall be paid or delivered to or received by any agent or attorney on account of services rendered in connection with this claim, and the same shall be unlawful, any contract to the contrary notwithstanding. Any person violating the provisions of this Act shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof shall be fined in any sum not exceeding $1,000. Approved June 9, 1944. [CHAPTER 248] AN ACT For the relief of Iver M. Gesteland. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Treasury is authorized and directed to pay, out of any money in the Treasury not otherwise appropriated, to Iver M. Gesteland of Sawyer, Wisconsin, a member of the crew of the steamer W. D . Cal- verly, Junior, the sum of $617.70, in full satisfaction of his claim against the United States for reimbursement of medical and hospital expenses incurred by him as the result of illness contracted in March 1942, the serious nature of such illness having prevented his removal to a United States Marine Hospital where he would have been entitled, as a seaman to medical treatment and hospitalization without cost to him: Provided, That no part of the amount appropriated in this Act in excess of 10 per centum thereof shall be paid or delivered to or received by any agent or attorney on account of services rendered in connection with this claim, and the same shall be unlawful, any contract to the contrary notwithstanding.
