For expenses necessary for the operation and maintenance of the Selective Service System, as authorized by title I of the Universal Military Training and Service Act (62 Stat. 604), as amended, includi^g services as authorized by 5 U.S.C. 3109; expenses of attendance at meetings and of training for uniformed personnel assigned to the Selective Service System, as authorized by law (5 U.S.C. 2301-2318) foF civilian employees; hire of motor vehicles; purchase of thirteen passenger motor vehicles for replacement only; not to exceed $67,800 for the National Selective Service Appeal Board; and $49,000 for the National Advisory Committee on the Selection of Physicians, Dentists, and Allied Specialists; $57,455,000: Provided, That during the current fiscal year, the President may exempt this appropriation from the provisions of subsection (c) of section 3679 of the Revised Statutes, as amended, whenever he deems such action to be necessary in the interest of national defense.
