Teacher. Member of the Vocal Faculty of the College of Music, University of Southern California. Has studied with Arthur J. Hubbard of Boston and Yeatman Griffiths of New York. Has been on Concert Tours; soloist for many local women's clubs. Graduated from the Toronto Conservatory of Music, also Toronto College of Music. Taught in the State Teachers' College in Santa Barbara during summer sessions, 1921; Head of Music Department, 1922. Has composed a few small pieces. Member: Pi Kappa Lambda, Sigma Alpha Iota, Artland Club, Music and Fine Arts, MacDowell, L. A. Music Teachers' Association, Federated Church Musicians. BAUM, Maud G. (Mrs. L. Frank), born in Fayetteville, New York, 1866, daughter of Henry H. and Matilda Joslyn Gage, a resident of California for seventeen years. Married to the late L. Frank Baum, author of “Wizard of Oz” and many other works. Children: Frank Joslyn, Robert Stanton, Harry Neal, Kenneth Gage. Her mother was an ardent woman suffrage worker with Susan Anthony and other leaders in the movement. Educated in private schools and in Cornell University. Very active club woman and civic worker. Author: “In Other Lands Than Ours.” Has served on Board of Directors of Hollywood Woman's Club. Has held several high offices in D. A. R. organization. BELL, Gertrude Sumption (Mrs.) A. B., M. A. Born in Elwood, Indiana, daughter of David Ward and Alvora Watson Sumption, a resident of California for 11 years. Children: Portia Abrams, Ginevra Marxmiller, Josephine Bell. Educator. Former school teacher and principal in Nebraska and Indiana; at one time Supervisor of elementary grades in Miss Wolcott's School, Denver, Colo., former assistant in the department of education in Universities of Colorado and Indiana. Has held various positions on faculty of San Diego State College. Lectures extensively, especially on subjects of parent education and child psychology. BELLOWS, Ida I. (Mrs. E. C), born August 12, 1859, in Geneva, Wisconsin, daughter of Olney R. and Susannah Fellows Perry, a resident of California for twenty-three years. Married to Edward Clark Bellows. Former president of Ebell Club; past president Woman's City Club. Member, City Housing Commission, 1918-22; member. Board of Freeholders, which drafted the present City Charter, 1923; member. Budget Committee, Community Chest, 1926. Member: L. A. Ebell, Woman's City Club. BENNITT, Katharine E., (Miss), a native of Buffalo, New York, daughter of Mark and Helen Tallett Bennitt, former resident of Illinois and Wyoming, living in California for 7 years. BENTON, Elisabeth Sara (Miss), born in Nunda, Illinois, daughter of Robert George and Lydia Armstrong Benton, a resident of California for forty-five years. Secretary-librarian, First Unitarian Church. For seven years secretary for the Women's Board of Missions for the Pacific. Interested in all civic affairs and, as an outside interest, reads to the blind, one evening each week. Member: S. F. Women's City Club, S. F. BENTON, Dr. Mary Lathrop, born on Mt. Lebanon, Syria, February 26, 1864, daughter of Rev. William Austin and Mrs. Loanza Goulding Benton; a former resident of Syria, Massachusetts and Minnesota, living in California for the last 5 years. College Professor, Dean of Women (retired).
