FOREWORD

THE STORIES presented in this volume have been selected from the "Naba-Katha," the "Sorashi" and the "Deshi-o-Bilati" by Mr. Prabhat Kumar Mukerji, one of the best writers of short stories in the Bengali language.

The first four stories were translated by the author himself and the remaining six by Mrs. M. S. Knight, the well-known translator of some of Bankim Chandra Chatterjee's Bengali novels.
