The spelling of Al Qaeda is repeatedly given as Al Queda, is this on purpose?
As per copy on Obama's Web site, I changed the spelling to "al-Qaeda" Samatva 06:13, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
verification
[edit]Is there any way to verify the content of this speech? That would be very helpful. Hermitage 22:36, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

- The date given in the September 2004 issue of The Network Journal. Black Professionals and Small Business Magazine [1] for the speech is incorrect.
- The speech was given at the noon anti-Iraq War rally in Federal Plaza in Chicago, Illinois on Wednesday, October 2, 2002 organized by Chicagoans Against War in Iraq. [2] [3] [4]
- There was an anti-Iraq War march ending in a rally in Federal Plaza in Chicago, Illinois on Saturday, October 26, 2002 organized by local religious leaders [5] to coincide with other anti-Iraq War rallies around the world (most notably the anti-Iraq War march and rally of over 100,000 people in Washington, DC); [6] but I do not know of any contemporaneous news account noting Obama attending or addressing the October 26, 2002 anti-Iraq War rally.

Definitive evidence of the content of the speech exists as a transcript that was posted on Obama's website in 2002, as stored in the Internet Archive: http://web.archive.org/web/20021217002032/http://www.obamaforillinois.com/news.shtml#1035425452 -- WebArchived. Omitted text found here, not elsewhere
[edit]I can find no other source that includes the line "He has repeatedly defied UN resolutions, thwarted UN inspection teams, developed chemical and biological weapons, and coveted nuclear capacity." They all contain elipses where this text appears here. His campaign website (http://www.barackobama.com/2002/10/26/remarks_of_illinois_state_sen.php) -- Superseded. April 09, 2011. omits this line as well.

Just a quick question, the Obama site (http://www.barackobama.com/2002/10/02/remarks_of_illinois_state_sen.php) -- Superseded. April 09, 2011. gives the date as 10/02/02 rather than 10/26/02. Did he give the speech in multiple locations, and if so, is there any clue where was it given first?
- As noted above, the speech was given on October 2, 2002.
- The September 2004 issue of The Network Journal. Black Professionals and Small Business Magazine gives an incorrect date (October 26, 2002) for the speech.
- The paperback book of Barack Obama quotes edited by Lisa Rogak (2007). Barack Obama in His Own Words, New York: Carroll & Graf ISBN 0786720573 gives an incorrect date (October 26, 2002) for the speech in excerpts on pages 43, 91, 101, 143, 154, and 157.
